I've been doing research on getting a hair transplant, and have read through the forum here and seen Bosley get bashed by many, Feller get mixed reviews (but mostly good), and Shapiro. Can anyone, just give me the top 5 that are out there (if there are that many)? I'm in the NY tri-state area, and I'm pretty sure I want to get it done, I just want to start gathering some of my own information and get some face-time with a few different facilities to do a comparative analysis. I have an appt with Bosley this week, just to get informed and check that box. Thanks for the help.

Hi chromedomefear,

Firstly I should try to sway you away from bosley, you are right in saying that they have a very bad reputaion, they are also very expensive and you will be disappointed with the work, as far as I am aware there is no member on any forum who says they are happy with the work they had from bosley.

As for choosing a good doctor, I think the best thing you could do is meet the doctor who will be doing the hair transplant, ask to meet some of their patients, this way you can evaluate and hopefully come to the right decision, there are a number of great hair transplant clinics but Bosley is not one of them.

Gillenator is probably the best person to ask here, he has a wide knowledge of the hair transplant industry and will be able to guide you in the right direction.

these are my personal choices through researching for my own hair transplant which i have yet to have done

you will find pictures/write ups of work from all these doctors on this forum

Dr Rahal

http://www.rahalhairtransplant.com/

Dr.Armani

http://www.alviarmanihairtransplants.com/

Dr Feller

http://www.fellermedical.com/

Dr Hasson and Dr Wong

http://www.hassonandwong.com/

when i eventually decide when to have a hair transplant it will most likely be with one of these docs.(not Armani as he no longer does strip )

but they are all at the top of their game and all can produce amazing results but look for more doctors as there are plenty out there that might suit you better :)

Thanks Guys. I'm located in Dutchess County in NY. (actually about 3 minutes down the road from HairLossTalk.com). I'd travel anywhere in NY, CT, NJ, eastern PA, southwestern MA.

libertine, thanks...exactly the type of response I'm looking for.

No worries,i would advise you think about going further afield. Many clinics will cover the cost of air fare and many have deals with local hotels to provide discounted accommodation. If you are going to spend $$$$ on a hair transplant then a few extra $ for travel/hotel should not affect your decision.Having said that if you wont travel further afield then Dr Feller is your best bet :)

traveling isn't a factor for me, I fly for an airline and fly for free. my only concern is flying out for the consultation, then pre-op, then post-op, then any other necc. subsequent appointments. I had surgery on my hand a while back with a doctor that was about 45 minutes from my house. It was such a drag to travel to the many associated appointments.

So if I was considering traveling....who would be my best bet then?

personally id say hasson and wong.......many uk patients have ventured over to use them so im sure all in all it wouldnt be that much hassle.Im not sure you even need to go for pre op meets etc, they will do a consultation based on your pictures then talk to you further on the day.

What is it about Bosley that makes them perform so poorly? I would think that they have the wherewithal to get the training and education to up their game. Do they really do such shotty work? Can anyone expand on this, in a more profound manner than a mere locker room style "they suck, they're a chop shop"?

I think its the way the business is run, motivated on profits and treating the customer as a sale rather than an individual case. If you go to a clinic where the surgeons name is on the door and he owns the place he'll be more concerned about his reputation. Most likely he'll do the consults and be there at every stage. At Bosely you'll meet salesmen and probably wont even see the surgeon until you go in for the surgery. and then he'll probably be the type of guy who tries his hand at every type of cosmetic surgery rather than specialising in one area.
A while back someone posted some info on unsrupulous sales tactics used by Bosely and ways they keep customers coming back eg placing hairlines deliberatly low and treating young patients ect.
