Switching from finasteride to...

We've heard it a thousand times "finasteride works differently than Rogaine, switching from one to the other will result in loss of all that was gained."

Has anyone successfully switched from finasteride to something else after years of finasteride. Is there a strategy to hang on, say weening off finasteride to Nizoral 2% + Rogaine?

finasteride is addressing the root "problem" of hairloss, whereas nizoral and minoxidil don't. You'll lose all the hair Propecia has kept unless you use some sort of DHT blocking topical...and even then you might still lose it all.

Ketoconazole is an antiandrogen so it adressess the root problem of hairloss. finasteride is also doing so but with a wrong approach.

Ketoconazole is thought to be a topical anti androgen, much the way CB-03-01 is touted to be, albeit much weaker. It effectively works on the same pathway as finasteride, but further downstream. While there are some studies that show that nizoral is as effective as minoxidil - but from an anti androgen standpoint - those studies are not the best.

There's no doubt finasteride is the strongest most effective thing on the market, but I just want to hear from those who got off it and what they tried. There's certainly a lot of people on this forum would would love to get off finasteride, but need to hold on for something else.

I suspect a combination of things might be able hold over the results of finasteride. For example, nizoral could weakly keep the androgen effects down while minoxidil stimulates growth thru the potentially shrinking follicles.

Anyone with experience, please post!

used finasteride for 3.5 years.
3 or 4 months ago i reduced finasteride to 0.5 mg, and shedded like a mofo.
i quit finasteride i think 1 or 2 months ago and switched to nizoral + rogaine + spironolactone cream, and i am currently regrowing a shitload of hair, while the shedding has reduced significantly. Unfortunately due to the huge regrowth effect of rogaine and the shedding it is causing, i will not be able to tell how good i am without finasteride until next year or more probably. Now i have more hair but who knows what will happen?
i know its not much helpful but this is my experience :)
