Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has switched from oral finasteride 0.5mg to topical finasteride 0.05% and got decent results without the sexual sides?

At the moment the sexual sides are present. I switched from 1mg every day to 1mg 3 times a week to now 0.5mg every day. On 1mg every day I regrew all my hair but then the sides kicked in so I reduced the dose. I’m trying to find a happy medium with oral but not having any joy.

Please help! Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Topical is not proven. Oral usage has many user experiences, many articles that pinpoints its efficacy while topical version has less data. And if your hairloss is agressive topical might be a redundancy and you hairloss might progress more than if you used oral version. Check user experiences and call your shot. You can check other websites like reddit or many indiviual accounts of usage in Youtube.

Topical is prone to sides as well when you use it for long enough it will be built in your system as far as I know. You say that you have sides are you 100 percent sure? Maybe it is your mood, attitude or another drug like antidepressant or nocebo effect?

No, I have the sides, low libido, erectile issues, low mood, sometimes crappy sleep. Blood test confirmed high Test, high SHBG and high prolactin, estrogen slightly raised. All at 1mg, dropped down to 0.5mg still same issue. It was working very well for me as well!

So it is up to topical now; I understand you; you can use %0.02 finasteride topical. Dermatologist prescribe lotions and pharmacies prepare them. At least this is the case in USA, Italy and Turkey. Also you check reddit/tresless for topical stories. There were user posts about switching to topical. Also read topical finasteride topic in this forum; it has very good and particular info. Wish the best.

Doctors may prescribe it as off-label. It is not illegal or something. But as you might know; Dutasteride is not approved for hairloss unless you live in Asia. So doctors can hesitate prescribing topical dutasteride. That's all. If you are in USA; you'll proabably find a good dermatologist that will prescribe you.

If its proven to go systemic, how could it not be proven to do exactly the same thing if applied topically for hairloss? Doesn't make sense.

Thanks Jazz1.

I read the studies show it doesn't go as systemic as the tablet as the tablet is metabolised mainly in the liver but we are bypassing that by just applying it where needed i.e the scalp?

I haven’t researched but i had way less side effects compared to oral and I’m perfectly ok.
