Hi,
I am 24 years old and my hairline is slowly receding with miniaturized hairs in the front, no general thinning for now. As most other men in my family are bald I will probably face the same fate without medication.
Furthermore, I have a naturally high hairline since birth that I would like to lower by around 1cm for better facial harmony.
Thus I'd like to stop further recession.
I just received my bloodwork:
Total testosterone: 409 ng/dl | 350-950
Free testosterone: 9.1 pg/ml | 13.5-28
DHT: 27 ng/dl | 16-110
prolactin: 10.7 ng/ml | 3-15
estradiol: 34 pg/ml | 20-59
FSH 13 mIU/ml | 0.7-11.1
Free T3 2.88 pg/ml | 1.8-4.2
Free T4 1.24 ng/dl | 0.8-1.5
DHEA-S 245 ug/dl | 80-560
TSH 2.27 uIU | 0.4-4.0
LH 5.13 mIU | 0.8-7.6
My thyroid seems fine, even though many people in my family have problems with it, so I guess it is mbp for me.
Before receiving my bloodwork I was sure I will take finasteride. But now I am a bit skeptical as my natural DHT levels seem pretty low.
Is there any research/broscience of whether lowering already low DHT levels increases the risk of side effects?
Is it possible that the measurements might have an error due to only 2 hours of sleep in the night before and bad sleep 3 weeks before ( due to work )?
I suspect this might be the case because 6 months ago I already tested my total testosterone which was 610 back then instead of 409.
Also, it seems like some miniaturized hairs show a bit of regrowth. Could sleeping bad for some weeks have such an effect on testosterone and thus DHT or is it more likely I am making this up in my head?
Would taking a lower dose of finasteride be a better option with such low DHT?
Or would it be wiser to get perfect sleep in the next month and then redo the bloodwork before hopping on any medication?
I already tried asking these questions to doctors. But all 3 doctors I consulted with so far told me minoxidil would be equally powerful but with fewer sides as finasteride. Which means they either lie to me or don't know sh*t. The only seemingly good one in Germany I found does not take new patients. So I have to rely on Internet information to save my hair.
