Got crazy and took some clippers to my head on the 1/4 in setting. I figured getting all the damage done over the years out in the open would be useful for obvservation and to stop having to worry about how it looks so much.

I'll try to get some images up soon.

Basically, very obviously bailing out in the back and crown area but still coverage...for what it's worth. I'd say I'm a cross between a 2 and a 3V.

Hairline is fair and v-shaped and I do have a nice head after all! If I can get my hair to thicken up in crown/vertex area, I will have met my goal.

Also, just turned 30 a few days ago.

I'm going to purchase Nizoral 1% (that's what they have at the store) and 5% minoxidil to get started.

Anyone have a problem with starting minoxidil before finasteride?

I won't be ordering finasteride until next week. Or Proscar. I guess. Anyone have links to order Proscar that are reliable and I don't need a prescription?

So, to sum up, ergrowth in back and on top, then perhaps a transplant to fill in hairline just a wee bit more. Do they do those body hair to head transplants now?

Wow. Let me just tell you that it was a terrifying experience today, wkaing up and realizing that I had shaved my head to 1/8th inch and that all my flaws were exposed. However, it did not look bad at all except under the harshest lights and the back, of course, is obviously bailing out but we've got a plan for that, don't we?

Needless to say, when I went to work the reaction I got from everybody was utter shock and even respect.

Luckily for me my overall hair is kind of finer and this combined with a fairly pronounced (albeit receeded) hairline gives the overall impression that their isn't TOO much of a problem. They were used to seeing my flat, lifeless hair that I would gel to death!

It's nice being free and fuzzy! I recommend you all do it to while going through your regimen. Less stress when it's all laid out on the table.

Anyway, just picked up some NIzoral 1% and a three month package of generic 5% minoxidil solution so I'm on my way. finasteride next week.

Again, I'll try to get pics of my "Base level" up so we can keep track of all this.

Men, I cannot stress enough how miserable it was trying to style my hair all the time as it is getting thinner and worrying about how it looks.

Buzz it all off! You'd be surprised just how much really IS under there after you do it. It did take MAJOR BALLS to do it though as I stood there in the bathroom, clippers in hand, trying to convince myself to do it for like an hour.

It's better!

Anyway, onward to lovely locks again. Being bald is for the Eagles.

Okay,, day two. Nozoral'd for the first time and minoxidil'd twice.

Next post will be pics and then I won't update until a month has passed.

I just wanna say one thing real quick.

I have read many, many very depressing threads on this forum from guys just AGONIZING over what they are going through.

LEt me tell you, I've been going through it for ten years, I know what it is all about. People treat you differently, etc. It's all biological.

I have to say, guys, the best thing you can do until your regimen is producing the results you are after is to shave your head or clip it REAL CLOSE.

Trust me. The first day is TERRIFYING....until people see you. Then you see that it is really no big deal and you have girls coming up and rubbing your fuzzy head, guys look at you with more respect than when your hair was floppy and dead.

It takes nuts to do it, I realize, but some of you guys who think, NO I CAN'T DO IT! MY HEAD IS AWFUL!.....don't really know what you are talking about till you do it.

I thought my head was a square shaped anvil...till I clipped it and now I see a sweet oval. It was all the hair in the way. Trust me. Do it. You'll look, and FEEL WAY BETTER.

On top of being much more comfortable. No fuss, no muss.

Plus, you minoxidil gets to your scalp easier, your spironolactone (gotta check that stuff out) and Nizoral have to fight through less hair to be effective.

then...............................

:freaked2:

Good luck, Men.

I agree with you there. I've just recently shaved my head to 'jarhead' specs. My hair pattern was strikingly obvious afterward but, people generally gave me good comments about the haircut. I think this last time around of me having fairly longish hair really started to show how bald I was getting (I'm like a type III, high temples receding hairline but no crown loss) and how poor my hair started to look when long. It was getting a bit 'Michael Bolton' in the front.

Short haircuts for balding people look better, plain and simple. A friend of mine started going bald in his 20's and showed me a pic of himself with a comb over. Hideous. Really bad. I had always known him (we're both in our 30's) with his head shaved and I can tell you, he has no problems dating. Without telling him, he's been a bit of comfort for me in knowing that, if I keep the haircut short, I'll not need to worry about being unattractive.

This is a repost from another thread here on the forum. I just wanted to update. Sorry, no pics yet, I'll try to get those by end of month or at least as soon as all my supplies arrive.

Man, I love this forums. You guys are the best. I've finally decided on my regimen.

I've already been doing minoxidil and nizoral for three weeks and my fears about cutting finasteride have been allayed.

So, starting next week it will be

finasteride
minoxidil
MSM
GSE
Nizoral
Folligen.

Wow. That's a lot.

I have reason to believe I'm going to be a good responder to this stuff. The cool part is, apparently all of the above is going to be dirt cheap.

minoxidil - $10 a month
finasteride - $7 a month
MSM/GSE ? $15 ? I'm going to the store right now.
Nizoral $5 a month (lasts a long time)
Folligen - $20 a month.

Added up, that's $57 a month. For all of it.

Considering you can't even get just Propecia alone for that much......

I love you guys. Thanks for the arsenal. :) :D  :p

EDIT: On top of that, I've been back in the Gym this month, got a GNC membership for cheap whey protein and this has just improved my overall being in every way.

BTW, I cannot stress enough how much better things are when you clip it close. I mean I'm happier, people around me respond MUCH better and hell, if my regimen fails completely (it won't) then I won't have to go down in misery.

Folligen will not cost you $20 a month. I promise you that. One 8oz bottle will last you 8 months I think. That 8oz bottle is only $30.

The cream/Lotion looks small, but that is 5 months of stuff in that small bottle.

I would hold off on the MSM because its just added $ to your regimine and there is no proof it will help you any with your hairloss fight.

Haven't posted here for a long time. I saw this thread, tho, and had to jump in.

I shaved down to the skin last night. Aside from some razor burn, I'm surprised at how good it looks! I get a shadow after a few hours, so I'm going to have to shave every day -- I'm real thin on the top now (thanks to male pattern baldness and finasteride, damn it), but I know now that, if it doesn't come back, I look good this way. I have pretty strong features and my ears aren't as big as I thought they were! No more toppik dance in the morning and trying to arrange every hair to cover and not succeeding. I've receded badly in the front since starting finasteride but I'm hanging in the full twelve months and we'll see what returns and what doesn't. The crown was holding its own without too much additional loss from finasteride. So, guys -- shave it! Wear cool sunglasses, get a tan, and get big in the gym. That's my plan. I get big fast. I've been in a performing field where I had to stay extremely skinny, and I just left it for the real world. This shaving thing is part of my liberation.

Check out this website I found: http://www.baldguyproject.com . Get a shirt. Get a life. Be happy!!

Yes, be free of worry! just shave it all off or clip it close! Amen, brother.

I get just as much attention, if not much more than before I did this. It's all in your head, I swear.

Also:

"I would hold off on the MSM because its just added $ to your regimine and there is no proof it will help you any with your hairloss fight."

Well, on top of it's use as potential hair regrowth it will help my joints for working out so I'm cool with it. It's not like it's expensive. I just paid $9 for a frigging two month supply!

Okay, I will be taking some pics tonight after work. Hopefully they turn out okay. I'll try to use plenty of light.

A lot of these pictures guys put up, trying to show us something specific, it's like, "uh......I think I see a head in there somewhere.???...".

Anyway, as a side note, I really want to get pics up, because, as of my third week on nizoral and minoxidil only, I believe that nizoral is thickening up my temples... We'll see. Need to start cataloguing this.

Also, as a side note. That MSM is awesome. Not on my hair, I have only been taking it for four days but it is GREAT on joints. My current job that I will be leaving in a few months has been very hard on my fingers. They don't hurt anymore.

PS using nizoral every other day (1%) has been sparing my scalp any irritation. 3 weeks and my hair is as happy as a bearded clam.

I also leave it in for 15 mins. Why everybody else so sparing with theirs? It feels really good to use often.

Lets get some batteries in that digi cam foo :D

I shaved my head down to nothing using clippers but I can clearly see a balding line from the font of the scalp to the back where it looks like it's thinnin out a lot. It sucks because you just can't escape it..

:?
