Hi, I am 18 years old and I noticed that my hair began to fall out around 6-8 months ago. It is a diffuse thinning and I have really noticed the thinning around my temples and all over the top of my head. I seemed to have started thinning when I began to lose weight and since New Years Ive gone from 220lbs to 165, but I have maintained the weight of 165 since the beginning of the summer, so I have maintained this weight for a few months at this point. My hair’s difference is very noticeable to me especially when I take off my hat, which I often have worn for years. It is especially evident in the last two weeks where it seems to have gotten much worse.

Is this a possible case of Telogen Effluvium, and what type of doctor am I supposed to visit for this type of thing? I am sort of selfconcious going to a doctor at such a young age as well.

Re: 18 and rapidly diffuse thinning

it could be Telogen Effluvium, temporary hormone imbalance due to crash diet, or male pattern baldness.

Go to see a derm and try to determine the cause.
