Sounds like an interesting substitution for minoxidil.

Side effects of Cilostazol are Headache and diarrhea and some rare cases of unwanted effects on the blood flow (blood leaving the bloodstream) were reported. That is why in 2011 a european agency for drugs made a risk analysis of the drug. Unfortunatly i could not find the evaluation of the analysis.

Protein binding: 95-98%

Metabolism:
Hepatic. Cilostazol is extensively metabolized by hepatic cytochrome P-450 enzymes, mainly 3A4, and, to a lesser extent, 2C19, with metabolites largely excreted in urine. Two metabolites are active, with one metabolite appearing to account for at least 50% of the pharmacologic (PDE III inhibition) activity after administration of cilostazol.

Route of elimination:
Cilostazol is extensively metabolized by hepatic cytochrome P-450 enzymes, mainly 3A4, and, to a lesser extent, 2C19, with metabolites largely excreted in urine. Cilostazol is eliminated predominately by metabolism and subsequent urinary excretion of metabolites. The primary route of elimination was via the urine (74%), with the remainder excreted in feces (20%). No measurable amount of unchanged cilostazol was excreted in the urine, and less than 2% of the dose was excreted as 3,4-dehydro-cilostazol. About 30% of the dose was excreted in urine as 4'-trans-hydroxy-cilostazol.

Half life:
11-13 hours.

Toxicity:
Information on acute overdosage with cilostazol in humans is limited. The signs and symptoms of an acute overdose can be anticipated to be those of excessive pharmacologic effect: severe headache, diarrhea, hypotension, tachycardia, and possibly cardiac arrhythmias. The oral LD50 of cilostazol is >5.0 g/kg in mice and rats and >2.0 g/kg in dogs.

Food Interactions:
  • Grapefruit and grapefruit juice should be avoided throughout treatment, grapefruit can significantly increase serum levels of this product.
  • Take on an empty stomach, a lipid rich meal will increase absorption.
The above quote is for oral use but should not change for topical use.
Short half life and high protein binding ratio and no serious side effects. Sounds promissing to me.

Good find!

I get those sides from minoxidil when it’s working. Actually, it’s hispitalised me a couple of times. I’m sure it can’t be much worse than that.

I’m going to look into it’s viability as a topical. The fact that this is quite a new study indicates that it’s likely not been tried yet by anyone. If I can find a way to get it I may give it a shot.

Another little tidbit that may interest some of you - Human Placental Extract supposedly enhances the effects of minoxidil (hair count and follicle size) by increasing the amount of WNT activity and growth factors.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/25787854/

Fun fact: you can very easily purchase HPA for cosmetic use. Just throwing it out there.

Where can this be purchased? I’m thoroughly interested

After google searching for 10 min all I can find is Cilostazol in pill form, mostly generic, goes by the brand name Pletal for the treatment of intermittent claudation and peripheral vascular issues. I’d be curious to know if we can get the pills and crush them into a fine powder to dissolve into a Ethyl/PG/DMSO vehicle. No data on solubility that I could find.

Similar efficacy of minoxidil? Is there bloating, dark circles, or collagen loss?

Looks promising, I’ve been avoiding minoxidil because of the collagen issues, I just got on the wrong side of 30, so I don’t need any help destroying my skin. I’m thinking of mixing a batch up in a 60/35/5% solution of Ethyl/PG/DMSO and giving this a shot. May try to put some SETI in this aswell. 2ml of this in the morning and 2ml of my sandalore/pmo mix in the evening.

We don’t know. I doubt that it messes with collagen in the same way however since the mechanism of action with these drugs are different.
