The most annoying (and undiscussed?) side effect of Propecia

I started taking Propecia about 2 months ago and have had no problems whatsoever.... until recently.

For the past week or so, I've had such a weak bladder it's annoying me to f**k. I've been waking up at about 5:30/6am every morning needing to go for a piss... even at work i've had to start to cutting back the amount of cups of coffee i drink. It's really driving me crazy. Hopefully this is one of those side effects that will subside after a short period of time...

When I went for a consultation at my local pharmacy they explained to me this is one of Propecia's side effects, but I just presumed this was one of those ultra rare side effects that I simply would not get. How wrong I was..

Not that it is concerning me in anyway, its just extremely annoying. I have NEVER had this problem before - It's certainly not because I have been drinking more fluids than I usually do, nor is it an 'age-related' issue - (at least I hope not - i'm only 24  )

Is anybody else out there experiencing (or experienced) the same problem?? If so, how long did it take for it to subside?

I am experiencing exactly the same problem (after 7-8 months on propecia). The only difference for me is that it's happen 1-2 hours after I get into my bed. I am lucky it's only happening during the night, if it was the whole day I would have stopped it.

Its the night/early morning that's the biggest issue for me. Because I'm waking up so early in the morning (esp. at weekends  ) I find myself absolutely shattered throughout the day..... and the ironic thing is the more coffee I drink to perk myself up the worse it gets.

I just hope this is a 'short lived' side effect...

Was up again at 5am this morning  It is fair to say, I am absolutely shattered.

I just can't understand why this is happening. I have done a fair bit of research and if anything - Propecia is supposed to HELP people with bladder problems, not cause it. I wonder if it is temporarily enlarging my prostate OR shrinking my bladder?!? I can not think of any other logical answer.

I'm just praying this is one of those side effects that will subside after a short period of time. I have experienced absolutely no other side effects whatsoever - it is so frustrating that I should be suffering from this one!! If things don't improve over the next couple of months I am going to have to quit taking it - something I really do not want to have to do. :(

If anyone could shed some light or give any possible theories as to why this is happening, I would be very grateful.

Thanks,
Jared

(PS. AND to make things even worse - I have a 7 month supply of Propecia which I paid $600/£300 for!!! Non-refundable. Yes, I know, I got ripped off.)

Dude, my advice would just be to hold it in! You will fall asleep again unless you need to go so bad you're going to burst (unlikely). Try not to think about it - your bladder won't have shrunk.

Well its a relief to here Im not the only one suffering from this side effect. Ive been taking 1mg finasteride daily for 5 weeks now. During the day is the worst - I constantly feel the need to go to the toilet and have to actively hold on, otherwise I go and theres barely anything there... weird :freaked:

I've heard changing when you take your pill might help....
If you take it in the morning, try before you got to sleep (or the opposite)
Good Luck!

Strange I've found it has had exactly the opposite effect on me. Now I can go all day sometimes without needing a piss. I'd have thought this was more likely since finasteride is supposed to reduce prostate size and therefore help the inability to hold a full bladder that most men experience with age.
BTW coffee (like alcohol) is a diaretic meaning it makes you want to piss. Switch to just drinking water.

If the Propecia decreased your libido, and you aren't having sex as frequently or mastrubating as frequently, you could have prostate congestion, which causes frequent urination. Do you "empty" your prostate once a day or so? : )
