Hello eveybody!
And may I first apologise for this long widned, full blown account of my quest so far to try and begin treatment for my hair loss....

Also, must say i'm New to these boards and so far found some excellent information on them posted by people with more sense than to say:

"Been trying the new 'cure'; adding eye of newt to morning [green] tea followed by a swift slap across the face to wake up the follicles!"

Anyway, I'm 19.4 years old and basically began, 2 years ago, the process we all know and love; balding.

Basically was in Lower 6th (second last year at grammar school) and noticed (or rather, others pointed out!) the top of my head was getting a little thin.
This slow process has continued since that day and as of this moment [hoovering loose hairs up*] have diffuse hair loss across the front, middle and back of my scalp+.

I must say though, that is isn't at "Old Man" stage just yet (indeed, from the stanadrd chart of hair loss I'm still to all intents nad purposes a "Norwood2") but within the next year it'll definately be at a stage where I'll have to wear a top hat(!) to avoid feeling embaressment.

From what i've read I believe I do 'have male pattern baldness. Indeed, my whole panic started during the summer.
Up till then I was quite relaxed, feeling that it'd "grow back" (ever feel like going backin time and slapping yourself?!) and it was happening so slowly anyway.
Then during the summer, with certain unflatering photos (read: shine through!) and the revelation that my Mum's grandad went Elton at 19 (to back up my heriditaryness(?!), I've also got her high cholesterol despite weighing short of 2Kgs!) I went to "why Me?!!" mode and began to take notice of the 20-50 or so [thinning] hairs I lost every day in the shower.

Using forums like these and sites and studies on the internet I began to confront this problem head on. So, after swotting up,I felt it time to do something. I went to my GP, and she did the usual tests necessary to rule out other reasons for my loss. She then refered me on to a dermatologist. However, I have to wait 5 months (!) for an appointment here in Belfast...oh dear!
Now, I knew what they would say. It was male pattern baldness and the NHS couldn't prescribe anything for it....I'd have to get it priately/off the back of a lorry

So with the prospect of waiting another stress filled 5 months (which wouldn't do my hair, me, or my pet wombat any good) just to hear the obvious, I found out about getting a private appointment with a dermatologist. And that, dear readers, brings us up to the present day, and my question [finally!]

WIll I get Propecia (or the much cheaper Proscar) on private prescription here in the UK, bearing in mind all about my age and degree of hairloss? Sadly I'm pinning all my hopes on it.

Tynan suggested a site: http://www.qhi.co.uk though in another post he said something about Spanish instructions and would love to hear of others, in the UK, who do get finasteride, for male pattern baldness, on private perscriptions, or of other sites I could use...

Thanks for anyone who managed to get through my post, and I'd be very grateful for any information provided!

PS: Some members of this forum said I may be a bit young to begin hormone (finasteride) though I must say, from what I've read, it seems best to catch it early rather than going all self-destructive over hairloss till you lose it all THEN take medication to reverse it...like spaying a dead horse..or was that flogging?(!)

*exaggeration, though not far off the truth!

+hairs themselves thinning..and more larger gaps between folicles, but again, not "SHOCKINGLY bad"..merely "buttock clenhing"

Yeah i couldnt be arsed reading all of your post either! Soundbites man, soundbites!

But to anwser your question QHI are really good, the Proscar is cheap and legit, its from Merck even though it has Spanish packaging. You cant get Proscar on private prescription from a doctor , it is illegal for a UK Doctor to prescribe Proscar for male pattern baldness. He would prescribe Propecia. I cant say exacatly how much it is, but it will be more expensive compared to buying fro QHI.

Yet you have to cut proscar, and Propecia may be the way to go if you want to stick to an exact dosage of 1mg. Ive been using proscar from QHI for about 2 years now and like it a lot.

Having said that..... you are 19....i think if you went to a Doctor he wouldnt presrcibe you propecia as he would say your too young. :( But its good to try and stop male pattern baldness ASAP. But...hmmm....you `may` be too young for propecia or proscar.
