Theory On Why Minoxidil Stops Working

Hi all, i know the accepted wisdom is that even for minoxidil responders it ceases to work eventually once DHT overwhelms the scalp in absence of propecia.

Well, i was a great responder to Regaine. I noticed at the time that my blood pressure had dropped from 130/90 to 90/70 on Regaine. I was probably applying too much so eased up a little and got my blood pressure up to 100/75. Then 2 years later Regaine stopped working and my blood pressure was also back up to 130/90 despite applying the same quantities.

I was measuring my bp religiously and I am positive about the above correlation between reduced blood pressure and regrowth. Why has minoxidil stopped causing my blood pressure to drop and what can be done to 're-activate' this link? If i could make that happen the regrowth might kick in again.

What does everyone think?

I know that pre-minoxidil I had a pretty high BP and my nephrologist put me on BP lowering medicine, which I quit taking after 3 weeks lol. I'm now a pretty heavy minoxidil user, I'll start monitoring it for the next few days.

Wouldn't the simple explanation be that the minoxidil was going systemic and reaching more hair follicles, giving you better growth and lowered BP?

Yes that's what i thought.
.
Why is it no longer going systemic though? i don't see this being discussed at all on the forums

The standard explanation is that you need to add propecia, or that DHT eventually overwhelms the minoxidil. Whereas the question we should be asking, at least based on my experience, is why does minoxidil stop going systemic? I mean this is a drug that was actually intended to be a last resort drug to reduce bp. There must be some science out there as to why it stops working to reduce bp? If we could understand this and counter it we should be able to enhance its regrowth potential which is essentially just a side-effect of successfully reducing bp.

My guess is that DKK-1 overwhelms the effects minoxidil has on the WNT pathway.

Folliman, could you please elaborate, sorry i'm not familiar with those terms. I'll look them up too.

If your guess is right which of various treatments, tested or untested, would help?

I have thinning crown and temples but the follicles refuse to die in my case, just VERY thin.

DKK-1 is upregulated by DHT, and WNT stimulation promotes hair growth. minoxidil acts on the WNT pathway.

I don't know what treatments would help. I'm going to make another guess and say LiCl+Dermarolling

One thing we do know is that stopping hairloss has eluded the greatest minds and i'm sure minoxidil stops working for different reasons in different people. In my case i'm pretty sure blood pressure provides a clue.

A quick google search on WNT and blood pressure was interesting. Still trying to understand it all.
