Thinking about going back on finasteride

I was on finasteride from back when I joined this board in 2004 until Jan of this year. I stopped because of the huge scare that had been going on. It seems like a lot of it has been blow out of proportion to some extent? I'm thinking about getting back on it, I'm lossing so much hair its not even funnY! Would there be a higher risk for side effects in restarting?

Blown out of proportion is an understatement! There is a small but extremely diligent and persistent group of people hell bent on making the drug look as bad as possible. When you take a time to read beyond the headlines, you will realize the catalyst for this scare is a very small study (essentially a survey) done on less than 100 people who have issues that persisted after stopping the medication. It's apparent that these persistent symptoms are likely actually happening, but when you consider only 100 cases out of millions of people worldwide taking the drug, it's not quite so scary. It is also important to note that the medication has been on the market for almost 20 years, and these reports didn't begin to surface until very recently, indicating yet again how extremely rare these reactions must be.

Get back on it, stop worrying, and live life like a hairy beast again! You had no side effects for 8 years, you will be fine unless you let your anxiety and worry get the better of you!

It sounds like you had nasty side effects on the drug. I'm not sure they ever resolved but if they did count your losses and don't look back. If you are a real man, you value yourd dick more than your hair. And since it was effecting your dick, any real man wouldn't dare touch the stuff. I'm not sure, nor do I care, what Wuffer's motivation is but he is very motivated to lie about finasteride. If sex and his gentials aren't that imporant to him, that's his business, but most men consider their genitals to be of utmost important. Just weigh the risks benefits and don't believe his lies. Lies such as this

Propecia was approved in December 1997. The first report of persistent side effects appeared in 1998

For Propecia, FDA reviewed 421 postmarketing reports of sexual dysfunction submitted to the Agency’s Adverse Events Reporting System (AERS) database between 1998 and 2011.

You conveniently left out the fact that only 59 of these cases mentioned that side effects persisted after 3 months. For all anyone knows, the rest resolved immediately after stopping the med.

For Proscar, FDA reviewed 131 cases of erectile dysfunction and 68 cases of decreased libido associated with the use of finasteride 5 mg submitted to the drug sponsor’s worldwide safety database between 1992 and 2010. Where information was available, these reported events of erectile dysfunction and decreased libido lasted for at least several weeks after drug discontinuation.

200 reported cases over the course of 18 years? With likely well over ten million users worldwide? The OP is asking if the reports are overblown, and you just answered his question better than I did.

Wuffer, I know for a fact Brasileirao isn't as dumb as you are. He knows damn well there is a differnce between the FDA reviewed 200 cases and 200 cases have been reported. This has been explained to you several times. You can even call them FDA and ask them yourself. Just don't expect other people to be as stupid as you are.
