Thinking Of Saying Fck The Meds

Thinking of just saying fck it and shaving my head. I worry about future sides of propecia. And Sometimes I get depressed if my hair doesn't look right.

I was trying to think of somebody famous I liked with a shaved head. And I've come up with Chris Daughtry from last years American Idol.

I shape my facial hair different all the time. Its like my trade mark. So I was thinking I could pull off his look. I wouldn't look right with no hair on my head or face. But with some crazy facial hair I could pull it off, I think.

Only problem is that I work in an office. And I only shape it crazy on the weekends then shave it off and start over during the week. But if I shaved my head I would always want to have hair on my face very similar to the way Chris had it on American Idol. I worry they will frown upon this at work and/or people will think different of me in a bad way. Also, I wonder how long I could keep this look for, would I look weird when I'm in my 50's like this?

So my questions are...

Anyone agree this might be a good idea?
Do you think this will affect my career?
Is it worth taking minimal meds to keep the shadow there?

I don't like the bald head with facial hair look.

Why are you taking just .5mg of finasteride? Side effects?

Why don't you go for a more thorough regimen if you aren't seeing the results you are on?

I'm taking .5mg of propecia because I've heard its just as good. And I'm thinking it will cause less side effects and its cheaper.

I haven't been on it long enough to see if it works for me yet. Only about 1 month.

As for the more thorough regimen. I was trying to save minoxidil for after the propecia stops working...if I can. I'm trying to look at the big picture. I'm guessing all the meds will all wear of eventually if they will even work for me in the first place. And then I will have to shave my head.

I'm 27 and always looked forward to going into my 30's...now I'm dreading it and I want a permanent solution.

Minoxidil and finasteride are just a couple of options. They are the only two FDA approved treatments for male pattern baldness but not your only two options at regrowing your hair. I cna't say whether .5mg is nearly as effective as 1mg. It might be, but unless cost is really a concern, I'd up your dosage, and try minoxidil now. Hair is more important now, and if that doesn't work you can try spironalactone, copper peptides or superoxide dismutase, ketoconazole shampoo, NANO shampoo, and a ton of other things.

I know it's easy for someone like me who doesn't know your economic situation to tell you to use more stuff, but if you can afford upping your dosage of finasteride and adding some minoxidil I think you will be giving yourself the extra help you may need now to see good results, and still be getting a good bang for your buck, all the while not shooting yourself in the foot when it comes to your hairloss in the future.

But if I up my dosage and add minoxidil wont they wear of in a few years? Then Ill be back at square 1.

Should I wait to see if the propecia works on its own?

This is what Ive been doing for the past few weeks. .5mg propecia daily, nizoral once a week, Tricomin daily...

Think maybe I should see if this works 1st without adding anything else? Then if it does work a few years later when i build a tolerance I can add minoxidil.

Do you really think upping the propecia dose will make a difference?

Sorry if these are stupid questions. I cant make up my mind how to handle this. I should have jumped on propecia 2 years ago when I first noticed hair loss.

You can move up to dutasteride if/when finasteride stops working. I am not sure how it works with minoxidil and decreased effectiveness but I am pretty sure it will work pretty well for quite a lot of years. Hopefully somoene here can answer you better.

I am coming up to 7 weeks of .5mg propecia only. Over the last few days the shedding seems to have slowed down a lot.
I hope to get some regrowth/thickning of the hair over the next 3-4months.
I think .5mg nearly as effective as 1mg.

Thanks for the replies. Im starting to wise up and realize the fights not over yet. I think I will bump up my dose to .7 1/2mg of propecia. I would really like to try and hold of on the minoxidil though.

I think Im a diffused hair loser. Weird pattern. I have yet to see someone have hair loss like mine.

Will propecia help thicken the thining hair? If so I might be ok with just that for now.

On finasteride, you'll probably have to wait until the six month mark to see result. So if hair's important to you, stick with the program. I too am a diffuse thinner, and saw some pretty great results overall on .5mg. And yeah, the sides were greatly reduced as well.

And who's to say there won't be a hairloss cure in 4-5 years. If you're that concerned, I would start minoxidil immediately. The more hair you lose, the harder it might be getting it back. Even if you only apply minoxidil once a day. Who knows? You might even be a super good responder to minoxidil. I saw immediate results from minoxidil within the first few weeks.

BTW, Chris Daughtry not only has a better look than Taylor Hicks, but a MUCH better voice.

Do what I did, I started out with proscar because it's cheaper (you cut the pill into 4ths so you have 1.25mg a pill and skip the 5th day), and then switched to fincar (the same product as proscar [5mg] but generic) because it's even cheaper. I ordered from www evo pharmacy com - it's currently sold there at 10x5mg for $7.50. You can get an additional discount if your purchase is over 70$ the discount code is on the main page.

Actually by the time the results wear off it means that your male pattern baldness has found its way to penetrate through the meds, so adding minoxidil will probably do nothing. The sooner you start minoxidil, the better regrowth you going to see. So you will have more hair to maintain when you cant regrow any more. But seriously keeping minoxidil for later sounds (plz no offence) like a sucky plan.

I would personally give the finasteride at least 6 months on its own first, try Nizoral alongside it, it may help you without the minoxidil, if later down the line you think you need it then it's there. Don't just jump in with both feet like some people on here, it is good that you question what you're taking.
