this is what my dermatologist told me....

After losing my hair for about a month and half now, I went to the dermatologist and explained to him that my hair started falling out for an unknown reason. He asked me if I wore my hair up in a pony tail alot, and I said I did ever since it started falling out and before. He diagnosed me with retraction alopecia....I think that's what he called it. He said that b/c I wore my hair in a tight pony tail so much, it caused retraction and it was actually pulling my hair too tight, causing it to fall out. At first I was a little skeptical but after he pointed out that most of my hair loss was right above my ears and above my temples, and it was true that I wore my hair up alot, I started to believe him. He prescribed DHS shampoo and conditioner and Luxiq Foam to apply to my hair...anyone have any experiences with either one? And the good news is, he said that eventually it will correct itself...I'm not going bald...and to find a new hairstyle. I'm glad I went and found out the problem, and I feel much better emotionally that someone shed some light on the topic....no pun intended. Anyone have any thoughts about this or experience the same thing?

You're very lucky. Since you found out the problem right away, you saved yourself from permanent hairloss due to damaging the hair follicles with the ponytail. And also, since the hairloss was from pulling, and not from a disruption of the hair cycle, you won't have to wait until the hair cycle starts over, or the minimum of 3 months for regrowth that Telogen Effluvium and some Androgenetic Alopecia have to wait.

WOw! You are very lucky that you found out the cause behind your hair loss after only 1 month. My only question, is why your doctor, felt the need to Rx you shampoo, conditioner, & a foam? I could see him Rx'ing you 1 product to help but 3 seams a bit much, given you had minor hair loss which occured for only 1 month. The reason behind your hair loss (wearing your ponytail too tight) is something that is best fixed by wearing your hair down and giving your hair the normal time it takes to grow. I think he was just trying to make a little extra $ Rx'ing you 3 products and I dont think there going to make much difference in your perticular case.

how did the luxiq foam work out for you? i am currently using it right now (for 2 months) and i am a little frustrated because it's breaking out my face (i had to get prescription from my derm to combat this). i am also getting the cortisone shots (once every 4 weeks). how long should i expect to see results? my temples are really damaged. . .bald spots the size of two quarters from all the years of wearing my hair in tight hairstyles including braids, extensions and locks. i am terrified that it won't grow back.
