I started loosing hair around 19 and it wasn't very noticible but recently(21) its really showing up at my temples mainly, i have good coverage everywhere else, BUt anyways I want to get on finasteride but im affraid of this "shed" that everyone yaps about and how it destroyed their hair. Has anyone been on finasteride and not had any major sheding periods? On that note has anyone been on it and not gotten any side effects like sex drive and whatever? Everytime i read a post its about someones flacid lifeless penis so I am a little wiery of getting on it. Any insight would be appreciated.

while the stats regarding side effects of finasteride are way off , for most people there is no shed, or sexual side effect of any sort. i do believe you're making a mountain out of a mole hill if you just have temple recession. you said it yourself the rest of your hair is thick, maybe its just a maturing hairline?...

however..if you're shedding alot, and your hair is growing back thinner, and you're losing short hair, getting the dreaded itch etc, and you wanna start early, take a light dose. how about 1/5 of a proscar pill every other day. add a ketoconazole shampoo like nizoral and you're set?..

you might not get the shed, even though the shed is to be taken as a good sign....you might not get the sexual sides too? you'll never know till you try. start off on a low dosage and you should be fine. sides are suppoesd to go away upon quitting finasteride so you should have nothing to worry about...

i swear on my finasteride-given-tits! you'll be fine!! JOIN USS!!!! :hairy:

j/k...you should be fine.

best of luck

Keep in mind that the majority of the posters on this site have hairloss :) Even over finasteride. Or have sides. And they try to figure out what's happenning. Then it appears that the majority have sides, progressing male pattern baldness, etc. Those who have success never or rarely visit HairLossTalk.com (or leave it) so you can't hear any success story (well, you can see success stories, but it's percentage to problematic posts is tending to zero...)

Try finasteride. It's unlikely you get sides, it is likely you maintain and have regrowth. Even if sides you can allways quit.

johnhair, you're going to shed most likely with any proven treatment so that's a part of it. But I wouldn't give up trying finasteride just because of your fear of sides. Ask you Doctor, he/she will tell ya.

How f*****g weird! I literally clicked this thread earlier after accidentally clicking the descending order option.

Time is a flat circle. We will never cure hairloss, but we may lose current treatments like finasteride as we descend back into the stone age. We are already at peak hair loss treatment.

We will never cure hairloss

I'm no research specialist but surely this is madness. I have no idea when it will happen, but if they can make hair grow on my head where there wasn't any, then technically that's already a "cure" to baldness, just a very shitty one. Some rare beings do regrow dense hair on min/finasteride, and of course there's the tranny drugs which I've seen someone go from NW5 to dense NW1.

As for a cure to "hair loss" well finasteride is pretty effective for most people, like I say my hairline grew but finasteride has stopped any more falling out. It's rare that I rub my head or apply minoxidil and have any hairs at all on my hands which is quite a satisfying feeling (there's the odd shedding days but that literally is a single day, up to every 1 or 2 months apart).

Anyway I don't want to get into the semantics of what a "cure" is because there's an argument that it counts even if temporary (cure for a cold) and doesn't count if it's not permanent (no cure for cancer).

But whatever if they've made hair grow on a human head somewhat safely, of course it's possible to refine and improve this.

Ya I’m just fishing for dislikes though. Whenever I post on things relating to a cure and say we will never get one I get like 5 dislikes and it gives me a boner
