maybe you should consider buzzing to a 1 guard or maybe a 2 guard. Use some medication/treatments to try and get regrowth and then once it starts looking a little better, grow it out

Did you try finasteride or minoxidil? Either try that and give it a year or shave it and rock a beard, but def don’t grow that and also not do treatments

I wore it buzzed for years. I'm starting to like it grown a little bit past those lengths again and I'm also tired of wearing it down that low.

I have tried treatments, multiple times. Minoxidil gave me heart palpitations and forehead wrinkles and is out of the question, finasteride I've never used over a month or so cause I get terrified it's gonna shrink/malfunction my genitals and give me memory problems based on studies I've read. I'm terrified of messing with my brain and genitals.

That being said I do have plenty of finasteride and am considering making then using topical + getting a transplant in the future. I'm not sure how effective a transplant could be in my situation without any finasteride though.

Definitely do not grow that out. Idk what age you are but it seems like you’re just on the fence about everything.

Either buzz/shave it.

or

Get on finasteride and hope for maintenance which will open up the gates to the possibility of a hair transplant and finally your hair back.

Whatever you pick is completely fine, but if you were to pick the latter, time is of the essence.

You're right, I'm on the fence. I want hair but I'm not willing to commit to any daily type of treatment, especially one that can compromise health/other more important areas of my life than hair, for hair.

It seems like buzzing/shaving it down again is inevitable and probably for the best until there becomes a way to get a transplant and maintain hair without using risky treatments like minoxidil and finasteride...

Don’t grow it out, it will look awful and draw eyes straight to it. Unfortunately a transplant without AAs for someone in your position is pointless. Treating hairloss is a zero sum game; your all in or you’re out.

Since you asked for honesty, if you wait any longer to take action there won’t be much point. Wherever you are when you start is likely to be your high water mark with regards to your hair. Decisions are hard, but you need to make one; the only thing worse than choosing and regretting is regretting never choosing.

If you aren't willing to start treatments just shave it off.

It seems like the unanimous consensus here is to buzz/shave it all off. I appreciate all the answers. Definitely agree that it does seem like if you want to do hair treatment, you have to be all in or all out, and I'm all out on the current options. Thanks for the answers again.
