To those who have quit minoxidil, or are thinking about quitting

I have been using minoxidil religiously for 10 months now without results. I have so day that applying minoxidil does still create some scalp irritation that i eliminate by using nizoral shampoo. I have been thinking about discontinuing my minoxidil usage because it is obvious it is not regrowing hair for me, and there is a possibility that the slight irritation in causes is only accelerating my hairloss. The only think i'm unsure of, is if minoxidil has helped me *slow* my hairloss. I doubt it, but it is a possibility.

I was wondering if anyone out there has quit minoxidil because of a similar situation where they weren't seeing results? I would also like to know if there has been anyone who has quit minoxidil and has seen improved results because of healthier scalp condition?

Thanks.

I used it on hairline for over a year and saw f*cking dick all. I hated everything about minoxidil, not to mention that you have to use it forever, even though it does sh*t after a few years anyway. I saw little difference after because it was doing nuttin anyway.

My opinion is that you have to go all out on minoxidil. Use it with short hair and just f*cking lather that sh*t in, and stick with it unconditionally.

bombsci, have you talked to brian about your situation? Perhaps he could provide some insight on your circumstances and advise you on your minoxidil usage/discontinuation.

Are you using the minoxidil twice a day? I've read some posters who say they weren't getting any results until they switched to twice a day...

Personally, I've never used minoxidil just because it seems like too much trouble to smear that stuff on my head...

Shedmaster is right. I was using minoxidil once a night for about 1 1/2 years with no results. Recently I have switched to the 2 x per day regimen and I have already noticed my hair is getting alot thicker and when I look in the sink, I see only about one or two hairs as opposed to 20. Could be that I have just stopped my 2-month shed but if I were to guess, I'd say it's my new 2 x per day regimen.

i'm getting awesome results with minoxidil on my hairline using twice a day. I've only been using for 1 and a half months, and i can see my old hairline coming back in. No pigmentation, but there are hairs there now, and that gives me a ton of confidence.

Bomb,

If you are indeed keeping up with the regimen in your profile, and you are in fact using minoxidil 5% twice a day, I say stop using it. My reasoning is, the rogaine 5% pamphlet states that if you do not see results after using it 2x a day for 4 or 6 months (whichever one it is), stop using it. I'm thinking that if the damn manufacturer itself says this, and actually LOSES money by you not buying any more, then the clinical data answers your question of whether there is anybody who has seen regrowth after this time frame.

Then you can argue the other way, that 1) it even says somewhere on this site, I think, that people have seen results at month 12 or so from continued use, and 2) the anagen phase can last many months. Could be that your hairs are still on the verge of growing back. So I understand your dilemma.

I'd give Dr. Lee and more educated folks a call. But if you just looking for advice, I say drop it and see what happens. I agree with you, that if your scalp is irritated, this may be why your hair is in a bad state right now.

A few questions:

1) How do you apply the minoxidil, do you rub it in? I think your maybe try letting it sit, so that maybe more minoxidil can sink into your scalp.

2) Also, What is your irritation like? I get a few pimples on my vertex, which sort of scares me too, and they hurt if I mess with them, but I can't even tell they are there if I leave them alone. minoxidil doesn't burn my scalp at all, anywere. Not even on the pimples when they are there.

3) The other post raises a good point- Where do you get your minoxidil? Might simply want to switch brands, not that it should make a difference. Ya never know.

Good luck bro.

PS: Hell, call the Rogaine 800 number, see what they say. Let them know you aren't out to get them, just to learn what you should do.
