Hi all
I am 46 and gradually have been losing my hair. Worse yet, I had a brain aneurysm and survived it 2 years ago. I have undergone 3 surgeries total for that, and each time they have had to crack my skull open. It really doesn't look too bad but my concern of course is losing my hair. I have a big ol scar under that hair and would probably be flipped out of I lost it. I have noticed it thin out quite a bit since the last surgery 3 months ago, probably due to all the trauma and stress. My hairline in front lost probably 3/4 of an inch in the past 6 months. Temples are done lol. I am considering rogaine and perhaps finasteride, and I have been reading alot on it. What do you guys think? Here are some pics:

Your hairline looks pretty decent, it's the thinning I'd look towards sorting out if anything. If you're still losing hair (which is odd by your age) then finasteride may help, but rogaine will just focus on restoring hair that's already been lost. With your type of hair loss, concealers will work great, especially dermmatch. Other than that, you'd probably get good results from a transplant, or scalp micro pigmentation applied behind your hairline could work as a permanent concealer like dermmatch. Best of luck!

I don't think it's odd at all that he's losing hair at 46.

I think your best bet would be to get on finasteride to prevent further loss and start Minoxidil to regrow hair. Your loss is not in the temples so I think you should experience growth in the areas you are thinning. Give it at least a year after you started treatments before assessing the situation.

Here's another shot taken this morning. It is hard to get a good shot to clearly show this, ugh! Well here's the front taken looking in a mirror. I can see my head pretty good under that thinning hair.....

Thanks so much for the replies to all of you. I have been contemplating this for a while but I think I better jump on the finasteride and rogaine to at least keep what I have. I am going to some ordering this weekend. I have been looking at this site and 4rx for the finasteride, can anyone suggest any alternatives? If not I will probably order from the linked site found here. Thanks for the help.....and encouragement!

I must say your hair looks good on you, even when it's thinning. I would say Propecia alone, is enough, if you are looking for a maintenance. is your hair thinning gradually?

:agree: It also might be a good idea to start finasteride on its own first, just so you know it's working, before you start minoxidil, just so you know what each one is doing for you individually and don't end up wasting any money. Up to you of course, if you're worried about rapidly losing what you have, or feel like you want to thicken up your hair immediately.

Thanks for the replies. I will give finasteride a shot and see how it goes fpr about 6 months. I have ordered the generic finasteride from 4rx and it is 1mg. Do you think using .5mg to start would be good or the full 1mg? Thanks again for the help.

You have a good head of hair for someone your age. I hope I'm as lucky. Good luck with treatments, I'm sure propecia will do wonders for you since it helps a lot with thinning. I'm also pretty sure that toppik would work wonders for you.
