Too Young, Too Baby-faced, Very Pissed Off

So I'm 23 years old, and I have a baby face. I'm not kidding. I can be mistaken for a teenager as young as 15 (it's happened).

And, to add to that fun, I'm balding. Yup. At 23. Not in my forties, not my thirties, not even my LATE twenties, but TWENTY f*****g THREE.

Moving on.

At first I thought I was only balding at the crown, but now I'm aware that not only have I majorly thinned out there, I also have lost a good portion of the hair on top of my head- not a receding hairline, no that would've been too generous. The. Entire. Top. Of. My. Head.

Now, I realized this was happening probably a year ago, and for about 8 months I'd say, I was using Minoxodil. It was a pain in the *** to do it every morning and night and try to get your hair to not look like a greasy mess, but I did it.

Then, randomly, it started making my head itchy, and I'm talking 8 months in. So I stopped it for a while, and admittedly I bleached and dyed my hair some time afterwards... probably not the best idea, but hey. Mistakes or whatever.

Anyway, my hair seemed fine until about three months ago. I feel like within those three months, I've lost A LOT more hair. You can very clearly see my scalp through my hair when it's styled up, which has made me very self-conscious.

When I noticed just how bad it got, I tried Minoxodil again, but again, it made my head insanely itchy, so I stopped. That's when I got Nizoral shampoo with has ketoconazole and a conditioner with biotin, 'cause apparently they're both good for hair loss.

I've been doing that for a couple weeks, and obviously no improvement yet, but I just got my hair cut very short in an attempt to minimize the obviousness of the thinning.

It didn't really work. Now it just seems more apparent because my scalp is on full display through the not-so-many-hairs I have left up top. That's fun. Anyway, a couple days ago I started using Minoxodil again (this time from Lipogaine, which has some other stuff in it as well). So far no itchiness, maybe it's 'cause of the combo with the shampoo and conditioner.

Sorry for the long post, but does anyone have any general tips? My game plan right now is to literally cling to what hair I have for dear life for the next couple years and then just get a hair transplant.

Now maybe this seems drastic. I've read a lot of, "Just go bald. Men who own it are sexy," but again, I stress. I have a baby face. I can't grow facial hair either (go figure), and so if I just said "f*** it," and shaved my head, I would look like an ill child. This doesn't seem like an option for me, especially at 23.

So yeah, any tips or encouragement are welcome. I try not to stress about it, but this is seriously one of my biggest frustrations that, after looking in a mirror at my all-too-present scalp, really depresses me.

Thanks guys.

Finasteride

I would give that a shot, but I've read a lot of scary things about it. I'd rather not sacrifice use of my penis to get hair back on my head.

Also, if those side effects were reversible, maybe I'd give it a shot and see if I was lucky enough to not get those side effects, but I've read that for a lot of men, even after they stopped taking it, they still experienced sexual performance issues.

Noo thaaaanksss.

Dick without hair, or hair without dick, whichever way you slice it, is equally worthless.

Yeah......except the chances of side effects is low and almost always reversible.

Heres something you got to realize...only people on the forums are one's who still are struggling with their hair loss or had negative reactions to the treatments. People who have success on finasteride RARELY come back here (except maybe to flaunt their success in our faces....yeah you Somebody), which is most people who take it. There are probably people you know and/or see who are on finasteride and you have no idea that they're even losing their hair. The people with side effects almost always come back. People who don't have sides but finasteride didn't do sh*t for their hair may or may not comeback based on whether they can accept their hair loss. Therefore you are going to hear a lot more about the horrors of the drug than the success stories.

you either get on finasteride and see what happens or you say goodbye to your hair. Simple as that.

First off messing around by stopping and starting minoxidil is a very bad idea is almost guaranteed to worsen your hair, either stick to it or stick off it, if you stick to it now give it 3 - 6 months and it should stabilize and you should get some of your gains back. Just don't stop and start it.

Secondly, you will want to consider some sort of DHT blocker if you really think you're fucked with a bald head. Finasteride sides are rare, and if you get them just stop, it's even rarer that they will persist in any way. I got sides, stopped, and they went away. Most people don't get sides though.

You could also try something like RU, topical finasteride, Saw Palmetto (debatable a weak finasteride).

Definitely keep using the nizoral and the minoxidil. Stick to a regime and stop messing around.

If you decide not to take any DHT blocker maybe start looking into/saving for a transplant.

Also if your head starts to itch again just reduce your minoxidil dose instead of stopping. Reduce it until the itch is gone, then increase until it returns to find the max dose you can tolerate.

I hadn't really looked at it that way. Thanks for the input. Something to consider for sure.

Thank you for your input. I appreciate all the tips. I am back on minoxodil and so far there aren't any issues. I think my scalp was getting dry and when combined with using minoxodil... well it wasn't a good combo.

Good thing Nizoral is also an anti dandruff shampoo. And ya know, using what I'm using now for shampoo and conditioner is keeping my scalp healthier.

Regarding finasteride, it's something I'll have to reconsider, as I totally removed it from my list of options after reading the horror stories. Maybe I'll revisit that and see where it goes.

I just know if I took it and was one of the unlucky few who had sides that persisted, well obviously I'd be in a MUCH worse position than I am in now.

Anyway, thanks again.

Who needs to attract b****s if when they get to your bedroom, you got an overcooked noodle and not much to offer?
My noodle is fine, the noodles on my head are getting stronger. I think i have much more to offer than you, mister spaghetti monster.
