Tooth ache :(

I've been having tooth ache for the last few days. I was hoping the pain would subside a bit until I get the chance to visit my dentist, but today the pain has been getting worse. 2 generic pain killers a day did the trick until today, but today they aren't working at all.

Anyway, the pain isn't that bad but still annoying. I'm gonna call the local dentists in the morning and try to get an appointment. I presume I can get an appointment for Wed or Thurs, but what can I do about the pain meanwhile? Bear in mind that the generic painkillers, ie paracetamol and ibuprofen, don't work.

ali,

im guessing a local dentist or community health clinic in your area could fit you in today if you just show up "as an emergency"...

maybe make some calls to a few clinics... they are usually good attending this kind of situations when a patient is in pain.. (and make sure to tell them pain is unbearable :sobbing: )

meanwhile you could try a combo of paracetamol and ibuprofen...

I tried the local dentist this morning, the one that my housemates go to, but they couldn't give me an appointment. Apparently they are full until June :sobbing:. I have to try the emergency dentist now, but its location is very awkward for me, it's in the other side of town.

On a more positive note, the pain is going away but I still have to deal with it ASAP.

I think I was too naive on the phone when I was asking for an appointment :), I should've told them that I had unbearable pain so that they feel obliged to see me... Anyway, I might call the local dentist again and try to emotionally blackmail them.

Don't wait when it comes to your teeth because it only can get worse. You may already have an abscess forming and there can be a fine line between a tooth that can be saved with a root canal and one that needs to be pulled. With the pain you're having I wouldn't doubt if an infection is forthcoming.

Are your gums tender or swollen at all? Is there a little blister-looking thing on the gum near the tooth that hurts?

If you answer yes to either of the two questions above, go to an emergency room if you have to, but go somewhere soon.

I have just one question for you, Ali.

Is it safe?

buy some co-codamol and maybe some lidocaine liquid (a topical anasthetic) until the NHS can be bothered to see you
I had pain in my wisdom tooth, turns out it had collapsed in on itself and had to be taken out of my mouth. :thumbdown2:
