I am using 5% minoxidil lotion with finasteride mixed in. However, I am putting it just on the temples, and now I am shedding on the top of my head, which seems thinner. I have been on the lotion for 2 months, and thinking I can’t continue if the top of my hair is losing. It all started when I started this mix. Is this shedding? Keep applying to temples and hope the top grows back to where it was before. Really only temples were thin.

I don’t think you should be worried by shedding. It is just temporary.
Apply the lotion all over your head, not only the temples

Well the top of my head had full head of hair always. My temples gave me issues of thinning so I ordered the minoxidil plus finasteride. In the past minoxidil has worked good. Did it’s job. However never thinned the top of my head. It’s thinning since I started this solution. Only been a few months but I can’t lose anymore and worried if it’s tied to go finasteride lotion

i started with 10% topical minoxidil in February, changed to 10% minoxidil with 0,1% finasteride in mid june.

the result was acceptable before i added the finasteride but has been fantastic after i started the combo.

i had a second shedding after i added topical finasteride, and it took almost 8 weeks to get it back, was very nervous weeks..

both pictures is taken directly after a 1mm haircut .

So it’s been 2 months and before I had thick hair on top, now I don’t and see bald patches since using the combo. Really worried about this and another month, I can’t afford to lose my whole thick head of hair. Intent was to keep the thinning receding hairline in tact, not lose my center portion of my hair. Wow

you have to give it time, and the shedding is part of the growth. it will take 6-8 weeks (at least for me) and your hair will ne back, hopefully a little thicker than before.

@AndShane, I had a crazy shed happen when i started finasteride , it lasted about a month and I nearly stopped taking the med at that point. My hair got noticeably thin and I could see my scalp in spots. The shed does slow down and stop but i'm still waiting for the thickness to come back. I use a 7% minoxidil 2 x a day as well. I assume your shedding will slow down and stop but if it gets too bad you might want to stop. I can say right now that unless my hair thickens a little in the next few months that I am worse off than when I started, not to mention the sides i've been battling.

Yeah I started this around June so it’s been a few months. Obviously never saw bald spots before and now I kinda do. Hard to tell but thinner on top but seems thicker where I apply. Once again I had experience with minoxidil and oral finasteride with success and not much shed. Why I am worried. However quit using anything t for about 4 years. Believe I lost quite a bit and that’s why I am shedding along with the topical finasteride. Also using pharmacy grade minoxidil

Is .05 the recommended dose for topical Finasteride? They filled a .05 Rx for 60ml but I need about 6ml daily to cover my scalp.

Do I need 4 bottles a month? Isn’t that too much going in per application? Diffuse thinning everywhere.

i am not sure what the recommended dosage is, i have 0,1%

i also think you use a lot every day, i use 2ml/day 1ml in the morning and 1ml in the evening (1 bottle/month) and i cover a huge area with that.

good luck, topical finasteride has been good to me.

Nothing to worry...you are just shedding because you add th anti androgen finasteride..stick with it and all hairs will come back more stronger

I believe the standard is .01 or .02 finasteride if I remember correctly that's what I chose in my formulation. I am happy to share the pharmacy I use if that's allowed here. You can choose what minoxidil % you want plus add all your own ingredients (finasteride, progesterone, azelic acid etc). It worked pretty well for me. I applied the lotion (or solution) to the front and combed it through my whole scalp, seemed to be pretty effective for me. Obviously you cant cover your whole head with stuff, you would be going through 3 bottles a month, not only costly but who knows the side effects. I got a bit of a swollen face with 15% minoxidil but it worked.

i did feel dizzy at times during the first two weeks, but had no side effects at all after that. So keep on using it until your body gets used to it, but i would talk to a doctor if it lasts longer than 2 months.
