totally disappointed with finasteride

i'm 1 week shy of around 15 months on 1 mg Finasteride. I've shed constantly these 15 months, and i've lost ALOT of density. I've kept taking it hoping it'll kick in, but it simply hasnt made the slightest bit of difference. dont have a bald patch as I'm thinnign Diffusely, with slight hairline and temple recession.. but before when i'd slick back my air i'd end up elvis fluff at the front, not when i comb back, it sticks to my head like paper. I'm gonna look pretty darn horrible in just a few months at this rate. Just got a haircut, and i couldnt believe what i was looking at in the mirror, my hair is just stuck to my head... i'd look as horrible with a buzz cut as i'd look bald. Ive lost about 35% density since starting finasteride last year.

i've been taking around 3000 mg of MSM as well, and about 2 weeks ago added 5% generic minoxidil. I doubt things'll pick up from here as my 5Ar inhibitor doesnt seem to be doing anything so the minoxidil shouldnt stop my hairloss either. everytime i shampoo (which is every other day) i end up with nothing but hair all over my palms

Sides: maybe around a 40% drop in libido.. alot of difficulty waking up in the morning and weight gain.

It´s either Telogen Effluvium or your hairloss is just too strong for finasteride. Start on dutasteride and take topicals like spironolactone and Prox-n but it might be the case that your hairloss is too strong for those too. In any case, you won´t know until you try, but you´ve given finasteride a go and it hasn´t worked so try something stronger. good luck and if that doesn´t work, just shave your head. It looks really good a lot of times!!

I am also diffuse and have just completed month four.

Possibly finasteride does not work well for diffuse thinners, as that seems to be the trend here at the moment.

No drop in libido, no weight gain.

I'd switch to dutasteride and see how you respond to that.

I've always heard on here that finasteride is good for diffuse thinners. I'm a DT, but I'm only on month 4. Haven't seen any improvement yet.

haha , no i dont masturbate excessively, i've got a girlfriend but um.. i take a zinc tab everyday as well.. around 30 mg zinc everyday.. along with another multivitamin, so the masturbation shouldnt be as an issue to begin with.

haha , no i dont masturbate excessively, i've got a girlfriend but um.. i take a zinc tab everyday as well.. around 30 mg zinc everyday.. along with another multivitamin, so the masturbation shouldnt be as an issue to begin with.

i have had a few nutrition classes, and too much zinc can cause hairloss as i think it is toxic, or competes with other essential nutrients / vitamins / minerals

Wow, really? Damn, i take some every day too.

I knew it competed for absorbtion with copper, but didn't think this was really an issue.

Many people have/had zinc deficiencies from drinking water out of hot taps, due to the old copper piping. This is especially true where i live (australia)

zinc has a RDI though, so unless you go past the Upper Limit (UI), you are fine...

the UI is 40mg

he takes that, plus a mulit, plus whats in the food... thats probably 45mg alone with supplements... let alone whats in food

finasteride sucked balls for me too so i started dutasteride. too early to tell if it's done anything, still getting a lot of hairs on the pillow but side effects are less at least.
