Hi everyone....
I have always had relatively thick hair thru most of my youth.... The thinning for me started around 1995 or so. I was just turning 24 at that time. It has been A VERY SLOW PROCESS. I look at pictures of myself over the last ten years and I can see the gradual difference in the thickness and depth of my hair. Probably something I would NEVER notice if not for balding.
My father lost most of his hair somewhere thru his 30's and into his early forties. Like me he had a diffused type of slow balding pattern (took about 12-17 years or so) along with the receding hair line. I always thought that was how I would end up. It most likely will be unless I start up with Proscar soon.
I have been using Nizoral 1%( 1 year about 3 times a week.. The stuff is great! )…( I also use Infusium 23 for shampoo which helps at least thicken the hair) I have used 5% minoxidil during the last few months. I did notice some irritation and shedding for some time.... I would probably be considered a Norwood-2 but moving towards a 2A within the next year or so. I have still not got on Proscar at this time. I'm worried about the 'potential' side-effects. However, I do have an appointment with my doctor next month.
I feel (like many of you) that I have a chance to at least severely slow this miserable progression. I would be happy enough to stay where I'm at right now as my hairline looks OK for my age. I guess we'll see what happens after I speak with my doctor.
I wish you all the best of luck. I hope there will be other options available for all of us soon.
