Hi there.

In short: dad is the only bald person in the family. Two older brothsrs at 29 have slightly maturing hairlines.

i however have dealt with patchy hair loss (maybe Telogen Effluvium?) since I was 17 or so. Below you can see how the sides of my head have been more or less for the past few years.

it is patchy on top also but not as bad as the sides somehow despite having a maturing hairline and a tad of recession.

it’s also not as bad (but noticeable) on the other side.

i noticed massive shedding during exams at 17/18 that started it all, taking piracetam seemed to make it worse but I carried on due to exam pressure at the time, my hairdresser at the time also used a hair scrapping thinning device on those areas at the time & mother has a thyroid problem. These are the only factors I can think that would of caused this (im 26 now) but why wouldnt the hair recover?

im wondering does anybody have any treatments that could work or any advice on thickening the sides up or do we reckon it’s fully gone.

long term lurker so I know my science, currently on oral castor oil (decent results) been Dermarolling 2 and a half months and use topical anti-dht.

im wondering if microneedling creates new hair follicles so could be worth doing on the sides?

That doesn’t look like male pattern baldness... it looks like alopecia areata or some variation of that. Have you been to a derm to take a look at this?

I have very similar hairloss on sides, but with less scalp showing. Maybe Telogen Effluvium nad DUPA at the same time
Went to a GP at 17 who laughed it off, I should go to a derm tbh so stupid that I haven't, it's quite hard to dermaroll atm so I'm hoping getting a professional pen would help this.

Telogen Effluvium & DUPA sounds likely, but also AA could be also..

Yes it does look AA too. Actually Difusse alopecia areata does exist.

Your immediate priority should be to schedule an appointment with a derm. Get this diagnosed and treat it properly. If it’s alopecia areata you can potentially treat it with topical steroids

I think It's not DUPA. I have DUPA and it's not lile this. It's more like tellogen effluvium or alopecia areata

Things are probably too weak for alopecia areata OTC, but look into hydrocortisone.

Or try and use telemedicine which is allowed during lockdown
