Trying to applying tape to a hair system

Hi, I recently bought a hair system for the first time. I had it professionally cut and styled and briefly shown how to apply tape to the system. I have applied tape to the system twice but I don't think I am getting it quiet right. I haven't been able to the get the front hairline to look natural. I've attached a photo of the system and the tapes. Can anyone explain what tape goes first second and third around the piece? I think the red tape goes first entirely around on the shiny part of the base. But there is about 1/2" of the base forward of the shiny part. Is the red tape applied all the way to the front edge? I know the longer curved tape goes on the frontal section, does it go on top of the red tape and the smaller size tape with holes go on last? Is this a frontal lace hair piece? Poly base?

Hello and welcome! It's usually better to use glue for the hairline as it's easier and less fiddly to apply (I use Ghost Bond Platinum because it provides a great hold without too much nasty stickiness when applying or cleaning). However you CAN use tape for the hairline, but you should use something thin like Walker Tape Lace Front Thin as it's less detectable. It's pretty fiddley to apply, though, because it's so thin. I don't know what hairline contour you have, but you can find it it any contour really.

Honestly, though, I think you'd be better off trying Ghost Bond Platinum glue for your hairline.

Is this a frontal lace hair piece? Poly base?

It looks like you've got a lace system with poly round the perimeter. The tape is supposed to be applied to the poly. Usually the poly parts of the base around the back and side go right to the edges of the hair system, so I'm not sure why they don't on yours - you should ask however you bought it from about this and make sure that next time you get a system with the poly right up to the edges. With your current system, you will have to apply the tape right up to the edges of your system, otherwise it won't attach properly and you'll have overhanging parts at the edges that aren't stuck down.

Another option is you trim the lace parts on the back and sides which are exposed, but don't do this if you're inexperienced as you can easily ruin a system if you don't know what you're doing.

For the hairline, it's actually common to have lace on the front part with the poly a bit further back, as lace tends to look more natural on a hairline (it's less shiny than poly, for example).

I know the longer curved tape goes on the frontal section, does it go on top of the red tape and the smaller size tape with holes go on last?

I'm not actually sure what types of tape you're using here. Walker Tape Red and something else? I use Truetape Supertape (1 inch wide) for the back and sides of my systems and I get 3 to 4 weeks hold easily. If you're looking for a longer hold, I'd recommend it.

But whatever tapes you're using, don't put layer any bits of tape on top of each other. You should trim the edges of each section of tape so they don't overlap each other.

I'm not sure if this has answered your questions but feel free to ask more if you need any further help.
