Trying To Get Pregnant While Using Dutasteride 0.15mg (man)

11 years ago I was unfortunately diagnosed with alopecia androgenetica (Man). A clinic advised me to prevent the hair loss with Finasteride. This medication worked for me 3 years, but due to a reduced effect, the clinic advised me to use Dutasteride 0.15mg. It worked great and due to this medication I didn't had any hairloss.

Now I am at the age with my girlfriend, where we want to start with children. However, pregnancy with Dutasteride is not recommended and of course I don't want to take any risks. Therefore I've quit temporary the medication for now almost 3 months. At this moment the hair loss is significantly and the first visual signs are now starting to discover...

Are there any tips to stop the hair loss as much as possible in a natural way or medication that has demonstrably no consequences for the child? Or what do people do when they are trying to conceive and used Dutasteride? Thanks in advance.

It is good that you are stopping as even though there is no proof that there could be issues if you continued, it is considered unknown and that is enough.

You may want to try Saw Palmetto and Nizoral shampoo for the time being...will not be as effective as pharmaceuticals but worked through similar pathways that were useful for you.

How effective is Saw Palmetto? Would it be wise to jump on finasteride or saw if you're 19?

It really depends on how much hair you have to work with. If you have a lot of hair and have mild thinning then it won't hurt to experiment with just using Rogaine and Saw Palmetto or some other topicals-contrary to popular opinion these alone have worked for people. If your hair is aggressively balding or you do not have a lot of hair left I would say to just use Finasteride starting off in the .25-.5mg range and not use Saw Palmetto.

I'd say I'm NW1.5 diffuse thinning

It is a personal choice. I am not using Propecia right now but am prepared to. I feel like I should use Rogaine, the head massages and some anti-inflammatories and the Nizoral shampoo here and there before taking a pill for, at this time, life. I did well on Minoxidil alone when I was 19, but this time around the thinning is worse but I am also 11yrs older. At this time after a month and a half my hair is doing very well even with a large shedding.

Well, my hair keeps going through a cycle. Basically, I shed hair every month for like a few days or so, temples look worse for a few days then it gets better, etc etc. I don't know what to do. I'm 6ft right now and I've grown a lot lately. I don't want to stunt my growth but at the same time i dont wanna go bald ffs

hmmm. well if you're asking for general alternatives to dutasteride/finasteride, you can try:

Minoxidil

Oral castor oil 1mL , Adenogen (these thicken existing hairs, not really regrowth)

Stemoxydine

I personally wouldn't mess with saw palmetto. it has a long half life (takes like a month for it to exit your system, unlike finasteride which is gone in a day and within a week the 5ar2 enzymes produce DHT again). I had very noticeable sides on it and was very irritable, easy for me to burst in anger over nothing where as I'm usually a chill person.

I also read that saw palmetto inhibits all three 5ar rather than only type II like finasteride does. You will probably have worse mental sides on SP and then get scared off from using finasteride which is more specialized. But you can give it a try, just know that it'll take a while to get that stuff out of your system. It does seem to give marginal hair improvement but not as much as finasteride.

Consider trying topical cetirizine or Fexofenadine (more expensive). You can make it topical by crushing up tablets (preferably filtering out fillers pouring through a filter) diluted in propylene glycol and water, alcohol optional) if you're afraid of using finasteride. that has been proven to work but you have to stick to it daily and you won't see results until about 3-4 months pass.

Should have stayed on it. I did and no issue for this. There's hardly any finasteride in semen and not enough to cause issues as per studies where they actually injected pregnant monkeys with the same amount of finasteride. Only a pregnant woman taking oral finasteride daily will get screwed and that's assuming the foetus is a boy. dutasteride is stronger though. A Doctor will always give a cautious answer to you if you see them about this. Just get back on the med when you can. Nothing you can do about the hair for now.
I saw some post about a woman saying her son got a micropenis because the father was taking it during conception, so who knows. IMO it's not a big deal to be off of it for a week or two while trying to conceive just to be safe.
