The picture with me outside was May of 2016 and the picture of me inside was taken today (May 2017)

Hello everybody, I am 19 years old and i am looking for advice.

Basically, 95% of the men in my family deals with hair loss (My dad, my half brother, all of my uncles, their dads etc are all stone bald. My grandfather (my mothers dad) was balding since his early twentys. I found a picture of him when he was 18 with the exact same hairline as me, at about 24-27 he had noticeable recession and at about 40 years old his hairline was in shambles.

I had longer hair last year and cut it off about a month ago, when i cut it off i noticed VERY slight thinning in my left corner, others noticed too up close and have now noticed some in my right corner. Everyone always tells me "you're crazy" "you're not going bald" or "you'll never go bald you have nice thick hair". But genetics says otherwise

Long story short i've done tons of research of Finasteride, Minoxodil, and of course all of the scams out there. I know that finasteride keeps the hair you have from thinning out, but doesn't really regrow hair. I don't want to wait until it's too late.....

What should i do? Am i worrying too much?

The area you indicate is really very small. Keep taking pics every half a year and compare. I think you have little to worry about.

finasteride does regrow hair its just that most people start a while after they even notice any reccession, and even then its usually in the crown for the most part. Given the nature of African American hair any recession is immediately noticeable because of the square and tight hairlines you posses. It may not be for certain but if you had any chance of growing back your hairline with finasteride it would be now. If you didn't have such strong family history I would tell you to relax and just keep an eye on it but it seems there is a very high chance that very very minor recession will only progress, and fast.

I wouldn't bother with pics especially since you know what is going on. If you are willing and able to take finasteride then go for it.

I would wait longer. That loss is so minor no one is going to ever prescribe you propecia for that. Letting it get a little worse wont be end of world, and then you know for sure your making the right choice.
Its a life long decision and commitment. I wouldnt take that too lightly. No one knows if it might shorten lifespan or whatever else the long term effects are unknown. Dont risk it for something that minor IMO

Finally another brother on here. I'm pretty much going through the exact same thing you are almost. I had a fade like yours a couple years ago, and when I cut it last year, I definitely noticed recession on my temples. I don't believe it's gotten worse since then but I have a couple questions for you.

Does your scalp burn, tingle, or feel cold at the thinning spots?

And does it itch?

We need more brothers on here. Hair loss sucks for many darker skinned guys too. Lebron James is the biggest example. One of the richest most powerful guys on the planet. Cares about his hair loss.
