I have been a passive reader of the forums for a few months and have decided, after a lot of stress, to take the step and become a poster.

I am a young television reporter in the US and have been experiencing what I'll call "shedding," off and on since February. This unexpected hair loss prompted me to begin propecia (a month later I began proscar thanks to hairloss talk) and then in May I added Shen Min to the diet for added hair nutrients.

My hair seemed to be doing well... relatively maintianed with even some new hairs -- i think. But in late june/early july my hair began shedding again -- and a lot. Not in the shower surprisingly. But on my shirts. After work i would find at least 20 or so pieces of hair on the inside and out (i have never noticed hair on my shirt before). I consider myself very vigilant and the television documents every day so I can honestly and accurately say a month later (today) my hair shape, texture and density has changed dramatically.

At this point I question so many things. I wonder whether proscar is helping at all (is it normal to go through a month of shedding?). I wonder if I should use rogain (however I tried it once and my hair looked dirty on air -- even when dry). I wonder why I'm shedding so much (my hairline is untouched, but the density of my entire scalp, back, top, sides, has changed).

I really want to stop wondering and just shave my head (even though I would still miss my hair)-- but, and this brings me back to why I posted in the first place, my employer and likely the viewers would not appreciate the new look.

Right now I am breathing deeply -- this post has taken a great weight off my shoulders.

I am hoping someone out in the cyber cosmos can relate to this story and perhaps shed light on their own approach of balancing hairloss and career.

Thanks for reading.

Its normal to shed for a month or even maybe longer. Ive been shedding for a good 2 months now. I'm at the 7th month mark on finpecia. I'm also noticing many new thin hairs which will take place of the shedded ones and build a new density. There is hope.

As for balancing hairloss and a career, Ive seen many television reporters that suffer from from male pattern baldness. They just seem to do there job without care for their hair. I would just continue taking proscar and perhaps invest in a copper peptide. Perhaps change your reporting style along with your hair style as you try to gain density. These are just some suggestions.

Maybe toppik might be helpful in your case. another suggestion might be to shave it really short. The trick is that you won´t notice your hair falling out because it is too small and hence you do not stress about your hair loss which, in my experience, makes everything worse.

Good luck!
