Well, I'm 20, just getting ready to start my junior year of college. I have noticed my receding hairline for maybe 2 years now. I have recently (within the past couple of months) become more concerned with it as i think it is getting worse. For example, last night i left gel in my hair, and this morning noticed that there was a lot of my hair stuck to the pillow. I counted them, and it was around 40 hairs. I cant run my hand through my hair, put gel in my hair, or do anything like that without noticing atleast 5 hairs falling out.

First, what should i do now? See a doctor? If so, what kind of doctor? Also, what treatment regime would you recommend? Thanks for your input, im glad i found this site. Message boards rawk. -Jon

See a dermatologist.

He will likely prescribe you finasteride(known as Propecia or Proscar). Ask him to prescribe you Proscar because there is a generic out in the US and you can cut the tablets in fourths and take one piece every day to save money.

If you have substantial hair loss then you can also use Minoxidil(Rogaine). You can get the 5% at Sams Club or Wal-Mart in the generic brand for dirt cheap.

Also add Nizoral 1% shampoo to your regimen. Get it from your local supermarket for 15 bucks for 7 ounces. Use it every 3 days in place of your normal shampoo. Leave it in for 5 minutes after lathering, then rinse out. Use any conditioner afterward.

So the rogaine would be something to apply before going to bed? Thanks for the advice.

you would apply the rogaine twice per day. but you don't have to get the brand name. you can get a generic brand either online: http://www.minoxidil-direct.com, 4 months supply for $27. Or you can get it locally at Sams Club or Wal-Mart for dirt cheap. Such a huge savings over Rogaine.

You also may be able to find a generic Nizoral shampoo which I think Wal-Mart sells.

If you do those 3 things I said above for one year:

Propecia or Proscar once a day EVERY day
Minoxidil twice a day(morning and night)
Nizoral 1% shampoo every 3 days in place of normal shamp followed by conditioner

It's almost guaranteed you'll at least maintain your hair for now if not regrow it.

finasteride (propecia / proscar), minoxidil, nizoral are all you are going to get for REAL advice that has serious backing

emphasis on the finasteride

The only area i am having the issue is my frontal hair line. I am not losing hair anywhere else. I have an appointment with a Doctor for sep 14th. Is the minoxidil good for that area?
