Hey everyone!

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted here, but I’ve been experiencing significant hair loss this past year. I’ve been working from home for the past 9 months and I noticed additional hair loss and miniaturization within that duration. My hairline and temples have taken the biggest hit, but my crown and everywhere else has taken noticeable hits.

I’ve been on finasteride since 2015 which has helped maintain my hair up until 2020 for the most part; no regrowth and minimal to no loss. I was able to get a prescription for dutasteride from my dermatologist, but he was very hesitant because he was convinced it would result in growing boobs. He had suggested oral minoxidil instead, but I stayed firm in wanting the dutasteride. He had warned me that oral minoxidil would result in body hair growth everywhere to the extreme which was worrying.

I’ve taken two dutasteride capsules and on the third night I was feeling a little bit of discomfort in my chest and armpit area (likely lymph nodes) which was a similar feeling I had when I started finasteride, but for the most part it went away except for random times here and there. It never resulted in Gyno, but of course this makes me worry about if it might happen with Dutasteride.

Are there any users that have switched from finasteride to dutasteride and had great results? Are there users that have maintained with finasteride, but added oral minoxidil after losing ground?

I’m trying to determine the best route to go so I want to hear people’s experience with switch from finasteride to dutasteride. I also want to hear users’ experience on sticking with finasteride, but adding oral minoxidil. Are there studies or a consensus within the community of which route would result in the best maintenance and potential regrowth?

Thanks!

Without pictures no one can give you any reasonable advice.
Pictures aren’t really necessary get people’s opinion on which route between the two listed would be the best option. I’ve already described my treatment history and that I maintained for most of that duration except for some time within the last 9 months I started to lose ground. I want to hear people’s between which route they think would be best and if anyone has personal experience that relates I’m interested in hearing that as well.

I mean, that's just not true. If significant loss to you is a couple hairs here and there, the significantly stronger dutasteride would not be worth the risk. If you've read about the differences between finasteride and dutasteride you would understand why dutasteride is much different, and in my opinion riskier.

If half of your hairline was wiped out that is a different story.

I would first add minoxidil, if i were you. I am more or less on the same boat as you, in my case after 15 years on finasteride. Losing ground, even after adding RU last summer - the hairline is getting hit, but i am mainly diffusing.
A growth stimulant might just turn things around for people in our position. At least, for some time. It has been said before: duta might rape your hairline.

No, i am considering topical minoxidil, not oral. But first i will wait and see what RU in addition to fina will do, and evaluate in a couple of months.
Nice. Yeah— I can’t tell what RU and dutasteride are doing for me respectively, since I started them at the same time. I guess hindsight is 20/20

If you are maintaining with finasteride and want regrowth - Oral Minoxidil.
If you are losing with finasteride and want to stop it - Dutasteride.
You will not get some amazing regrowth with dutasteride after 5 years on finasteride. The regrowth usually comes from increase of estrogen IMO so duta might just work for you. I would be cautious tho as there has been anecdotal evidence of duta raping hairlines.
3 months passed on my dutasteride(2-3×Week), 3.5 months on minoxidil(once a two day) and I'm losing my frontal line ? What shall I do ? Should I use oral spironolactone ?
