:(

Now I got to ride the bus for a while, till I find another used car. Hope my pizza job waits a week for me to get it.

Anyone else on here ever bought a $1000 vehicle before? How long do they usually last? Wondering if mine is a fluke or to be expected. It had 200,000 miles though.

I paid £100 ($150) for a car and is lasted me two years minus an alternator and battery. It only had 4 gears and it had a manual choke but other than that it was a decent little motor.

btw how do you think the lavender oil works? I'm curious to try. Have you tried Licorice or other herbs? (for mild anti-androgenic effects?)

A $1000 car is something that will be a fixer-upper.

Now is a good time to buy a used or new car though. I just got a screaming deal on a used Ford Escape XLT with low miles.

I don't drive one, I've friends who have bought used ones (in some cases for under $1000) and they seem to last forever. It's certainly a good choice for a bunky.

I have never bought my own car and I have only ever driven my dad and brother's motor. I am thinking of buying a used car so I can take my grandma to the seaside :punk:

I've never owned a car... I never needed one in the first place...

But, I'm definitely getting one this year. I want to get out and travel on the weekends, I want to become a Sunday driver :) so that I can visit my grandma more often (she lives in a seaside town, I don't have to drive her to the seaside  )

I'm actually tempted to get a cheap motorbike for the summer and then switch to a car when the weather becomes unsuitable for the bike. I have to calculate all the costs involved, etc and see what I can afford... Or if I end up somewhere where it doesn't snow, I can stick with the motorbike for longer...

I fancy the bike more than the car at the moment :)

CCS - what's wrong with your car that caused it to die? If it's an easy fix, no reason not to repair it yourself and keep the ol' girl running.

It is an $1800 vehicle and the tranny went. Not worth replacing it.

Those are a nightmare...I have had 2 and hated it.

That's just cause you're a woman. :hump: :innocent:

My truck's transmission is still going strong even after 180,000 miles. Original clutch too. My old car's tranny was still great after 135,000 miles - again, original clutch. Would have still been going if it hadn't been totalled in an accident. The tranny on my newest addition to the car family still shifts like butter and it's got 109,000 miles on it.

Only time I ever wish I had an automatic is when I'm stopped on a steep hill on ice. And even then, it's not that bad.
