Vellus hairs turn black for some reason? Shedding from treatment. Success?

Let me preface this by saying, the reason I posted this in the success section is due to the perceived success of my treatment. If I've broken forum etiquette, I apologize. I'm 27 years old and have been slowly thinning for about 6 years now. My thinning is accompanied by the strangest detail... The hairs that are falling out are being replaced by less terminal hairs that have black in them. The smaller the hair gets, the darker the hair gets. I have so many hairs that are half red, half black. When I say black, I mean JET black. As black as you can imagine. I started treatment for hairloss this week. .5 mg of finepecia EOD to allow my hormones to slowly regulate, 5% minoxidil liquid twice a day, and nizoral EOD. I notice the only hair i'm losing now is the hair with the black pigment in it, so I believe this may be a positive thing. My hair is very long, so, I can tell my level of hair loss by how many terminal hairs i'm losing while showering. Before treatment, it wasn't a pretty sight. One month, I'd lose a ton of terminal hairs with a mixture of black, thinner hairs. The next month, I'd lost mainly the black hairs, as my hairline continued to thin towards the crown and the vellus hairs would disappear for good. Now, it's just the hairs with black. Only time will tell.

The main reason i'm posting is to hopefully get some explanation from those who are more educated on the subject. I've searched high and low and cannot find a reason why my hair would change color as it becomes thinner. I mean, it's ****in weird. In the half pigment hairs, it's bright copper and straight, but once it hits that black pigment, the hair literally zig zags like a snake slithering and tapers to a point at the very top, like a needle. On one hand, it makes it easy to track which variety of hair i'm losing, on the other hand, it's just perplexing.

Any help regarding this would be awesome, and i'll post some pictures of my baseline and progress in the coming weeks. Success? I hope.

You said you started the treatment this week, yet you post in the success story section ?

You provide criticism, yet offer no solution? Success is a relative term. Seems like success could be a positive mental state provided by treatment, as well as a physical one. I would say that the lack of terminal hair in my fingers when I shower now, and the mood that it garners, are a success. Anyway, if the thread needs to be moved, I won't oppose it in any manner, as i'm mainly trying to get to the bottom of why my vellus hairs turn black. I'd also rather have this post open as a log than to compile a bunch of pictures and post it as one larger thread. Updating it will only reinforce my efforts to maintain my treatment. No need for salt.
