Very early gyno on dutasteride - will stopping cold turkey stop its progression?

I know that it stays in your system for a bit. I've been on it for literally exactly 1 month now, and yesterday, my nipples began to hurt, and feel sensisitve. It's worse today. I THINK I feel a tiny lump in the left one. I can't really tell though. I think I do. And it may be my pec I can't tell, but the nipple sticks out a little bit - but almost to a degree that you wouldn't even be able to tell unless you're me looking down at my pecs, and even then it's very very hard to see. So I caught it early.

If I stop dutasteride immediately, since it has a long half-life, would it still progress? Or if I stop cold turkey now would it stay the same/not progress, or even get better? As long as it stays the same, I'm fine.

But I'm just worried about the half life of dutasteride.

I've got no means of getting a prescription, but would love to get letro just to annihlate it, if possible and then just stop all this stuff all together.

Any non-prescription ways of stopping it? Would it just stop if I stop taking dutasteride even though the halflife is long? Or would it progress even IF I stopped, due to its long halflife?

Thanks!

Hair loss for men normally resumes after desisting from treatment. You might be making mountains out of mole hills, as the old saying goes.

Yeah. It's not bad at all right now. Just a little receding around the temples. Barely a NW2. I'm closer to a NW1. Wanted to get on top of things before it worsened. - But I'm fit/skinny, and my tits are becoming tender; started yesterday, and they're really hurting today, and I can feel a hardish lump in the left one and I feel that specific nipple might (MIGHT) be beginning to puff a little. So regardless, I don't want moobs. Is there any other alternative that lasts, besides things such as fernasteride/dutasteride? I know of oral minoxidil, but that seems iffy. Certainly will plateau at a certain point and the hairs will fall out again, from what I've researched... Are there any other good alternatives that you know of?

Finasteride might not have the same effect on you. I think oral minoxidil is great for regrowth and probably for maintenance. Keto helps prevent dandruff, dermatitis and inflammation so I would use that once a week maybe. Alternatives to dutasteride and finasteride are not currently on the market to my knowledge. You could try using lots of saw palmetto which has weaker effects on DHT but that could have sides too in that it affects the same hormone.

Doesn't oral minoxidil cap out at a certain period, as with Finasteride, then the hairloss just continues post-plateau? I also hear horrible things about oral minoxidil's side effects, let alone its efficacy rate. I also hear that oral minoxidil can cause cardiovascular issues, as well as exacerbate aging, and cause black spots under the eyes, which I already have some of. I'd rather avoid that.

Well. Minoxidil and Finasteride can maintain hair for decades. I wasn't a believer in oral minoxidil because it appeared to work too well but that hasn't been a problem for me and I have had few sides on pretty larges dosages, mostly increased beard hair. My perception is that oral minoxidil for some people is a game-changer on the male side and as a jump starter on the female side for MtF's.

Since I am on HRT and HRT is often quite effective on its own, it could be that oral minoxidil does very little and it would have come in anyway but I think that it would have taken a lot more time probably without minoxidil. It can take years to grow out a scalp from bald to even a page boy length with HRT and you can look at the pics that I have posted plus many people on HRT also struggle with lack of regrowth although hair loss virtually always halts.

With oral min, many of us are simply ingesting topical minoxidil from the dropper down the back of the throat. This means no prescription; dirt cheap and easy to experiment with to see if it works. You can "drink" once per day and use topical once a day, one in the morning and one in the evening and that would likely work much better than just using topical min as a topical.

Thank you! Just ordered some via alldaychemist. 10mg tablets, will cut them in halvsies. They are so pricy though. I read somewhere on reddit that somebody got 'em for like 20-30 bucks for 100 tablets...? Do you know anywhere to get 'em cheaper? Cost me 90 bucks for the max supply amount.

Anyway, here's to hoping it'll go well! I figured, I took the risk with f*****g dutasteride, what have I got to lose? I've used topical minoxidil, even up to 10% for my beard with amazing results. So I'm hopeful.

Fingers crossed. Thank you!

I don't know specifically but I have a large list of off-shore vendors that are verified periodically if you want to message me. Minoxidil beards are hilarious to me if they are grown on their own but I would worry about the invigorated follicles carrying DHT.

And as I said, if you want oral min for free or if you are out and need it quick, you can drizzle ml down your throat for only pennies a day, literally as they say. One bottle of topical lasts several months of oral even for heavier users like me.

Do you just send them a check? I use a Thai vendor that has the items door to door in ten days or less but they don't carry the minoxidil tablets. I mention it because even a couple of years ago, people had to wait a really long time for their shipments to arrive which was a drag for procrastinators.

I used Zelle to be on the safe side. I don't want to put my account and routing number out there, even though that was an option (echeck). Zelle is pretty secure, so I tried that. I followed the instructions, and my order was confirmed!

Oh that would be awesome if you could send a list my way! I'd love that, thank you! - And minoxidil was the only thing that gave me this beard, haha! Glad I made the jump too. I had shitty sideburns, a little chin hair, some thin mustache hair and that's it. Now, 2 years later, (and yes I could've grown, but if you saw the progress, it was absolutely the minoxidil) full beard. I don't know about the physical/medical aspects of minoxidil for a beard, however, I do know that the hairs stay even after stopping, unlike head hair.

And I never knew you could drink it! Wow. Must be some safe 'kind' of alcohol. THank you for the heads up:)

Yes. The government hasn't polluted minoxidil to keep the winos out of the pharmacy aisles. It does have that awful taste that is probably designated to keep children from drinking it since it is quite bitter even for a few droplets.

@bridgeburn said they were cheap, I think from a Thai vendor. He took 10mg once every other day but I don't think was probably any different from 5mg twice a day. Now, you see the value of drinking the topical. It is dirt cheap and the major hassle is measuring it out with a dropper but there's no mess or crap in your hair weighing it down. No prescription needed. The downside is that once people get to around 15 mg (disclosure: I am at .25 ml , the equivalent of 12.5 grams twice daily and split into morning and evening doses). Probably some is lost in transmission via oral topical but that's what titration is for. For people taking 5 mg a day, you might only need one six dollar bottle a year and no pharmacist or doctor or any of those hassles. I think the prescription aspect is what delayed adoption of oral min for hair loss. It's definitely made my "removed" beard scratchier but this side can be lessened by using less once one meets one's hair goals.

I have a suspicion that the "minoxidil-drinking" guys on Tressless actually ended up promoting prescription use as well since at least we finally had some feed-back. I see a lot of crap on Tressless that made me sad but the stuff about drinking topical min appears to be dead on if I don't keel over soon and then never mind but it's been 7 months and so far, really good. If you say drizzling, it is boring so I say "drinking minoxidil" to pump it up in terms of potential reader interest.

I have no leeway to criticize anyone's spending habits on hair "meds" or devices except to say which ones I have used and which seem most likely to work. I have spent so much money on tubes of Estrogel the last 12 months but I made my huge approach with the Estrogel and now I am hopefully gliding homeward. Minoxidil used to be highly expensive especially for non-responders to two percent. Nobody shed, lol, but not many of us grew hair either. Now it's dirt cheap in the topical form. spironolactone is a very cheap medication as is Premarin and as are both Provera and CPA. Insurance companies love Premarin and Provera and spironolactone because they are dirt cheap regardless of risk. I used to spend all of this money on ampoules with placental factors that cost like $25 bucks a piece while polysorbate 80 which was really cheap at health food stores, worked much better than the Parisian ampoules, although they looked really cool.

Thank you so much by the way! Just have a question. I have to dig deep to feel any "lump". Is there any chance that may just be some gland under the nipple, that's normal? I don't know if guys have those. But it feels a little circular, but I have to dig deep to find it.

Also, yesterday and today, I found under my jaw, toward the neck, my lymph nodes were hurting there as well. Maybe the nipple pain wasn't even gyno? I don't know. I wonder how common gyno is on dutasteride? They say it's very very uncommon on Finasteride, and hell, my family doesn't even have a predisposition for gyno. None of us get it during puberty either, and I've never had it... So wouldn't that make my chances much lower, as well? Should I continue with the dutasteride? Maybe try once EoD?

You appear to be in the placebo/first year med student mode where you think that you experience essentially a whole slew of things that might be possible theoretically but which actually aren't. I had breast knots so I guess I know what that feels like but my breasts just grew without really much in the way of announcement and on minuscule amounts of estrogen. So, like @bridgeburn, I choose/chose not to fight the battle against breast growth or gyno because it is unclear how much of any amount of breast growth can be predictably managed since less is more for breast growth but more is more for hair restoration.

I have/had been on finasteride since 1998 and on dutasteride since 2015 and honestly, I never felt anything nor did I see anything to indicate that they were in the background working or causing any sides. I had issues with too much libido while using finasteride, not less as it actually increases T which controls many more functions than we might think.

Also, even without titration, tolerance will occur fairly rapidly to most side effects even if they are present initially as either real or placebo factors so I would give it as long as you can stand. I don't even really understand the difference between breast growth and gyno--both can be dissipated and are far less permanent than many people think plus many XY's with gyno appear to grow the largest breasts among MtF's so they must be connected but mostly, I think, people use gyno more or less as a euphemism for male breast growth and such development is extremely common, hormonal meds or not, among XY's. I think that some differentiate gyno from breast development with respect to how the nipples feel but except for breast knots right at puberty, I have never felt anything when my breasts grow.

At this point, it seems rude for me not to accept them and accept them happily if this be the cost of a full head of hair especially when so many other MtF's who actually want breasts end up with mostly gyno or minimal development at all and obsess about breasts the way that we obsess about hair. I am not "just in it for the hair" but I might be predominantly in it for the hair plus the thrill of basically developing a new look, person and personality more or less out of the remnants of my used up male binary/personality and they do differ greatly in spite of a vast reservoir of common desires and experiences. Janey is just more fun and I digress but the point is that for a full head of hair or even just to not be perceived as balding anymore, to me, is worth risking breast growth but I was also 48 when I started and had really no other options because regular min and finasteride were finally petering out after a nice run of many years. I had also had had a family, home life and just about as much of the male experience as I could stomach any longer.

You can try 0.5mg anastrozole 1x a week, I started developing gyno from dutasteride also, confirmed by ultrasound. My estradiol was also elevated. I take anastrozole 0.5mg 1x a week and my nipple is no longer sensitive + estradiol is at the lower end of the normal range now.

Please be aware of having too low E2 is very bad for men too ( i'm serious), maybe try to do 0,25mg/week to be sure your e2 is not too low.
