VinoVeritas's Story (25, male pattern baldness since 15/16)

Whether or not there's such a thing as stress or trauma-induced male pattern baldness, I can be the poster child for it -- noticeable onset of hair loss after my parents died when I was 15, currently 25 in the shape I am hair-wise.

I haven't let this ruin my life, but we can just say that romance has not found its way into things as it may have otherwise. I still enjoy family, my career and friends but it's certainly been a blow to my confidence. Canceled a recent blind date when the girl mentioned that she hoped I didn't turn out to be a "balding 50-year old man." We can't blame them -- I can't say that I, for my part, would find a balding girl attractive either.

Here first to read others' stories and empathy, and second for technical advice. I tried Propecia for a brief period of time and gave it up only because I didn't want to take a pill every day at 18 years old. I'm open to going back on if it would be realistic in my situation.

Wore a hair piece VERY briefly, but the daily tape was just too much. It can look great if you have the time and experience to get it set just right, but if you're running to work or class it just doesn't seem realistic.

That's all for now -- I'm not here for a pity party, but if there are others (particularly those 18-30 years old) who are going through the same situation then I'm glad to be here.

I would say go back on Propecia and think about using Minoxidil or Nizoral and see how well you respond to them.

Looks promising . . . I didn't take Propecia long enough years ago to see any results. Anyway, there's no harm to trying so I'll try to get a Doctor's appointment set up this week or next. Thanks guys.

Re: Vino's Story (25, male pattern baldness since 15/16) - Just try a shavedhead

If I was in your position I would not go on propecia, you have already lost quite a lot of hair.Propecia as side effects - take it from me.
Why not try shaving your hair all off,get yourself a tan,you might be surprised how good it might look.It might be a shock initially, but it hopefully would grow on you.
I'm nearly 20 years older than you,I've a bit more hair,but I shave my head daily,it looks ok,if I was 25 young faced,it would probally look fantastic.
I used to rub spectral dnc-l on my head, that caused skin problems, contact exysma (Spelt right?).Propecia causes fatness.as well as slight sexual side effects. If you research this, you will find I'm right.
I suppose as you get older it gets easier to accept,or thats what others say,but I'm not sure.
Roll on HM
All the best

Dont listen to that. sides are very rare. And if you did get them its easy to just stop taking it.

No I'm wrong - do not think so,try putting propecia complaints into google, you will see.

This is not the main thing I was trying to say.
Bald or balding is the same in most peoples eyes.
If you have lost a lot of hair you only have two real options at present accept it or get a hair transplant.
Propecia will only help to keep the hair you have,if you already lost quite a lot, whats the point unless you are going to have hair transplant.Rubbing stuff into your head twice daily, becomes a pain - Not a lot of people get regrowth.

The side effects from propecia get better the longer you stay with it.You just will not shoot a big load again, and perhaps you will get a chubby chest!

There are alternatives to propecia, like saw palmetto and pygeum, along with nettle herbs. These do the same or are supposed to - google it along with hairloss.
Alway do research, followed by more research.

Bullsh@t :stfu:

That site is NOT an accurate representation od Propecia side effects and is run by a couple of bitter guys who blame all of their problems on finasteride. The vast majority of people don't get sides and those that do seek out places on the internet to vent.

Why are you all acting like little girls. We are all entitled to our own opinions.
I've done quite a lot of research over the last couple of years. The most obvious thing to do is accept your baldness - it might just take over your life.
Have an hair transplant, hope its not to obvious, wear a wig, hope thats not to obvious.Spray hair fibres into your thinning hair, hope its not to obvious.Wait another 5 years for hair multiplication, which might be another 5 years.
Research, research is the best thing to do regardless, but watch out for paid posters along the way!

Yes, we are all allowed our opinions but there is a fact out there as well. The fact is the the majority of people do not experience side effects and that is what I was stating.

This is VinoVeritas's thread, sorry it got Off Topic.

FYI, I am going to assume you did NOT include me in the "little girl" comment you made. We all need to refrian from name calling and help each other as that what we are all here for.

with respect, I'm inclined to believe the opinions of qualified doctors and medical specialists over some anonymous nutcase who calls himself 'BALDIE42' and claims to have done 'research'

Yes.I'm also sorry its got a bit off topic. All I've been trying to say is if your going to have an hair transplant or already have enough hair do medications.Yes some get good results, most only keep what they already have.
If you haven't a lot of hair and are not going to have an hair transplant, the best option is to try shaving your head, get a tan.enjoy low maintence.
I've been banned and blocked from another hairloss site,so I'll try not to have to strong opinions, that might offend.
I've done quite a lot of research, take it from me check out all my posting on hair*Telogen Effluvium.com.I'm not new to all of this.

Hey fair enough! We all are entitled to our opinions and NO you are not being banned here. I do not care if you are for or against the use of finasteride, just refrain from the name calling guys. Have all the strong opinions you want. So on that note let turn this thread back over to it's creator.

Thanks

I was banned from Propeciahelp.com for daring to imply that their sides may have been caused by things other than Finasteride... :woot:

I actually use propecia.I can live with the slight side effect I get.
This is not the point I was trying to make.
Spectral dnc-l caused me very bad side effects, contact excyma, which cleared once I stopped using it.
Oh by the way what was original posting about?

You have enough fine hairs on top of your head to potentially fill in nicely. Just get on a program ASAP, being younger than I (31) you should probably see good results. Get on Propecia/ Proscar quartered, minoxodil, and Nizoral shampoo every 3 days. I had lost hair pretty badly on top of my head, but its all making a decent comeback every week I check (I'm at 3 1/2 months on the above mentioned regime). See my story pics on page 2 of this forum. Every week its still filling in more and more and much more noticiable now. I can't wait another 3 months to see what my hair will look like by summer time! I had minor side effects with Proscar in the first couple of months but they are gone now.
