Vinyard's Story - A Tale of An Unfortunate Kid (19)

Sup yall!

I'm a 19 year old kid from Sweden. I find it extremely hard living with hairloss especially when I'm this young. I shouldn't be worrying about sh** like this at the age of 19 but I've been unlucky with everything I've done in my life so I guess hair loss was inevitable. But did I expect hairloss to start as early as 15-16? I guess it started when I was 15, but barely noticable. When I was 16 there was some significant hair loss (hair line began receding). I noticed my hair loss when I was about 17 and a half. Geez! My whole life stopped! And when I took a shower I saw lots of hair on my hands! How long have I been shedding this much? Lots of questions but unfortunately no answers.

My dad started losing his hair around the age of 20, my brother started losing around 21 - 22. And my hairline started receding at 16 years of age! It's a shocker I know! I remember thinking to myself when I was 18 years old: "Alright, I can take a little hair loss, but no more than this! Just leave it at this."
But as I stated earlier, I've been unlucky with everything in my life. I even have a hunch back and I have a rather nasty body odor. (No joke)
Anyway... did it stop at NW2? No it didn't. My hair wanted to lose more. Now I'm f****** losing all over my head! I decided that I want to put an end to this!

I contacted a doctor who's working at a hair transplant clinic in Sweden. Some guys from a Swedish forum said that this doctor prescribes ProScar for 30 bucks or so. So I sent the money to him and waited for him to contact me because of my young age but he never did. Instead I received the prescription in the mail box and was ready to go! I bought Finasteride Sandoz, 100 pills for 14 bucks. Really cheap! And I split them in fourths so that's 14 bucks for a year supply! Awesome! And I still had 2 bottles Kirkland left! I was ready to get my hair back. Well it's been one month since and nothing actually happened! I haven't even experienced any shedding from finasteride+minoxidil. That was a big let down because shedding usually means progress and I'm not shedding at all. All I got was some slight pain in my balls the first days I was taking finasteride but not any longer.
I was really expecting shedding because it feels like shedding is a "purification". I mean it's like "out with the old ones and bring in the new fresher ones".

This surely sucks! I'm freakin' 19 years old! Where's the luck! Can't I be successful with at least ONE thing in life?! I can't shave my hair off either because I have this "bump" right across my head. You see how unlucky I am with EVERYTHING! Even when I'm stuck with hair loss I can't shave it off because that would be even worse! If I had a nice round scalp I wouldn't hesitate to bring out the blades! But I'm stuck with this disfigured head with a bump across it so I must keep my hair at all costs! And so far it's not looking good.

Here's a couple of pictures. Remember... I recently turned 19 so this is looking pretty bad guys. Pretty effing bad!

Left side. Sorry for the bad quality. High quality pictures further down.

Hmmm. That's odd. This forum won't display images from ImageShack. I better re-upload them somewhere else.

You hair is still thick my man I think you will respond well to minoxidil and finasteride. Start treatments now! You still have much hair left.

Like you, I also started loosing my hair when I was around 16 so I know how you feel. Much more aggressive than you tho. Dude, I wish I had your hair. finasteride and minoxidil haven't done much for me. But I bet it will do you good.

Maybe this will make you feel better (me when I was 19): http://i52.tinypic.com/ka4dfr.jpg

Good luck

Hi and thanks for replying! Geez, that's quite some loss you have/had. Pretty agressive for a 19 year old. I have a friend who's also 19 and he's pretty much the same as in the picture you posted. How old are you now and how does your hair look today?

And I have actually started treatment already:
* Finasterid Sandoz 5mg Generic ProScar I believe (cut in fourths) 14 bucks for 100 pills.
* Kirkland Minoxidil 5% (applying to my scalp and let it stay during night)
Might add some more stuff in the future. Zinc pills, green tea etc etc.

Have you experienced any other side effects from the finasteride?

You look like a handsome kid so just stick with the treatments and try to get out there and live life. I feel happy no matter how i look when my social and professional life is intact.

Finasteride has left me impotent and completely messed up in the head and i only used it for a little while almost 2 years ago. I am also balding much, much faster than you but i suit the shaven head look. I still have happy days and so can you!

That's lots of info you got there, but I'm not quitting finasteride ;)
I think I'll be just fine with my current regimen and I'm not to worried about the side effects.

They are very rare, you should be fine.

:)

Just keep an eye on things.

Yep, it's very rare. I experienced slight pain in my balls the first couple of days when I started eating finasteride but now I don't get any side effects at all. Not even shedding! I thought shedding meant progress, out with the old ones and bring in the new ones. But I'm not shedding at all! Does that mean it isn't working? Most people experience massive shedding the first few weeks or so but not me. It's a little strange.

your hairline looks very good Norwood 1.5.

The pictures I posted doesn't really do justice. I'm putting myself at a NW2.5 hairline.

no way my friend, we all think are hairline is worse than it really is. my hairline causes me emotional pain and people always compliment my hair.

Actually my hairline is A LOT worse than the photos depict. You really have to see my hair in real life to see how it actually looks because the pictures are very misleading. But I am definitely NW2.5. You simply must believe me :D

Your hairline is kind of like mine. Your crown may or may not be thinning. It will always look like it is under certain light at certain angles. Oral spironolactone could really help the hairline since you have some thin hairs left where your Norwood 1 would be. You are not bad off though and I don't see any sure indication that you are genetically destined to be bald. Will you ever be able to say you have really good hair genes? No, probably not. But you may not be as bad off as you might think. If your crown isn't thinning, what I just said is especially true. Check out Assad and Weiner's hairlines: http://spiroguys.wordpress.com/2011/08/ ... nd-weiner/ They both kept thick hair even though their hairlines are messed up. A good transplant would fix this. So, if this is where you're destined to end up, a hair transplant when you're their age or a bit younger is the cure. Not so for Norwood 4-7s.

My crown is definitely not as thick as it used to be. And actually... I think there MIGHT be some results already. Been on finasteride for 34 days now and there's some extremely small hairs around my hairline. They've been there for quite some time now but somehow they appear to have grown just a tiny little bit. I'm going to keep an eye on it and hopefully within 3 weeks I will know for sure if there's been improvement.

I see some recession but no way there's a thinning all over. Most of the people tend to show scalp with wet hair. And flash makes it seem worse.

Can you giv some update on this , Vinyard?

I have the same hair loss structure like you. And quite the same thinning.

I'm 26 and have just a LITTLE bit more hair than you, I think. But just a few percent maybe. I fear it may soon look like yours.

DO you do finasteride & minoxidil now or what's your regiment?
