I am currently 16 years old and new here. I know finasteride is only prescribed to people that are at least 18. I have slight recession in both sides of my temples and just started using minoxidil liquid from Kirkland in those areas. What do you guys think should be my game plan until I turn 18 in a year and a half from now?

Also all of he dudes on my fathers side are Norwood 3’s.

Big 3: finasteride, minoxidil and nizoral.

It's a good start.
And once I am able to get a prescription for finasteride, is it worth getting Propecia or is Actavis (generic) a better option? Of course due to the price difference

Generics are exactly the same drug.

i would a bit - 16 is too young

there are drugs that can help and have no side effects

-minoxidil
-stemoxydine (neogenic)
-fluridil (eucapil)

try combo of those 3 topicals

I think I am going to stick with minoxidil until I turn 18 and try out finasteride once the time comes and maybe there will actually be a cure by 2020 (doubtful though). Hopefully there’ll be better options by then.

There will be better choices 2021 or 2022 there will be CB. I would not use finasteride even at 18. I would wait until 21 or later Stick to the things mentioned above and keep using minoxidil twice daily like instructions say. Maybe see a good dermatologist.

I just booked an appointment with a local dermatologist which had great reviews all around but it’s not until December xD. Hopefully I can get some good news out of it and some progress with minoxidil by then.

Genetics play an important role but as far as I understand you are more likely to inherit from your mother's side.

It is certainly possible you have started losing hair already, but at your age it could also be due to stress. Have any stressful events happened in the past 6 months? Usually hair loss because of stress comes with a 3-month delay. And it is reversible.

Just to exclude stress maybe you could wait a couple of months more to see if the situation worsens or improves.

Minoxidil doesn't have many side effects but sure it's a burden to apply it every single day. I recommend to not overdose on it because studies show you won't get better results but may seriously increase risk of side effects. So according to my dermatologist the recommended dosage is 2 x 1 ml per day, but if not 1 x 2 ml is OK.

Maybe it's personal but I don't like the sticky feeling of minoxidil. It's because of the propylenglycol. They say it's needed to help aborption. That's why I usually apply Monoxidil when I know I'm gonna wash my hair in 2-3 hours ahead, but I'm not sure if the product is fully absorbed by then.

Personally I wouldn't mess with your hormones (finasteride) at your age.

I was going through the most stressful month of my life this past January (school finals). But my right temple had already started receding about a year before that and now my left side is catching up. Although, Two or three after January, I noticed excessive shedding that still hasn’t stopped which seems to be occurring randomly over the scalp.

To add on, I am not attempting to take finasteride at my current age as I am planning to in a couple years.
