Dear all,

Just a word of warning for all using - or should i say over using keto 2% shampoo. Two months ago i started using nizoral three times a week for 5 minutes after reading it from here. The first month was fine, then after that i noticed a few shorter than normal hairs shedding, but continued as thought this might be a positive sign, then in the last two weeks i noticed the skin on my hands peeling but took a few days to put two and two together. Since stopping last week i have had terrible scalp burn, flakes, huge shed, had to sleep with my head infront of a fan and cover my head in calomine lotion - not a good look for a thick nw2 with long hair.

I do not want to come across as bitter having followed others from here, i just want to give a word of warning to folks about the over use of strong products - and wish i had followed the instructions - they are there for a reason!

PS i never had a sensitive scalp so it can happen to anybody!

Hopefully it will grow back!

I had a nasty experience with nizoral as well and it was only the 1%. My scalp became very oily and inflamed and I shed a ton of hair (which actually changed color from dark brown to sort of a reddish brown). That is when I ordered my first bottle of Tricomin and I found it very helpful in relieving the inflammation. My hair was back to normal with a couple of months.

I as well found nizoral too harsh on my scalp, dried the heck out of my hair but made my scalp all red and inflamed.

I use capasaul which has coal tar and it has been a god send

In my case I wouldn't even say it's because my scalp was sensitive but that I had an allergic reaction to the active ingredient. I did some digging at the time and found a reference that one should not use keto if they have an allergy to sulfa based drugs which I do have.

Some seem to think that Nizoral is just a shampoo and it couldn't possible do harm. Wrong. It contains a powerful anti-fungal drug and probably shouldn't be used by some.

I use it 3 times per week. No itching and no rash. It does make my scalp pretty dry though and it causes some shedding but i am not sure if that's due to the minoxidil. Should I continue to use it?

Cut down on the exposure time if you run into trouble. I'm using 2% nizoral every day, but I usually only expose the scalp for 1 minute. It's great.

Most likely it's the soap (SLS) and the mechanichal stress (from washing too much and too hard) that causes both the shedding (which of course grows out) and the dryness and redness.

The active ingredient, ketoconazole, is actually very nice on the scalp, is anti- inflammatory and has a proven effect on hairloss.

Consider using the 1% instead, or simply switch to a ketoconazole lotion.

Tricomin is also very nice on the scalp, and probably helps with the inflammation as well.
