It would be a good idea. A clean scalp is a better field for topical treatments.Do you have to wash you hair before applying minoxidil when using styling aids? E.g. if I apply wax in the morning, do I have to wash it out in the evening before applying minoxidil?
I had that same question too, but that doesn't really answer the question, because WHAT if you don't wash the wax off? Would it be less effective for penetration? It would be a good idea. A clean scalp is a better field for topical treatments.
I rarely use any product on hair. However, when I do, I see that some of it goes to the scalp. Especially in the zones where you have less hair.I had that same question too, but that doesn't really answer the question, because WHAT if you don't wash the wax off? Hypertricosys (in unwanted parts of the body) is exactly how minoxidil's properties were discovered.I dont wash my hair every day but I also dont put any styling products in it.
I use minoxidil at night and wash in the morning days i wash it.
I'm a good responder in just 3 months even unfrotuantly some of my face got some new hairs..so basically its working.
@Roberto_72 does minoxidil continue to thicken new hairs? i got a lot of new hairs from it but wondering if the diameter will get thicker over time.

Chances are you are a good responder.
Minoxidil does not properly make your hair thicker. That is a consequence of the lengthening of the anagen phase, the growth phase of the hair strand.
If you are lucky, the hair that was getting shorter over time (or better: that was falling out when still short), will return over time to its original "terminal" status of a 3/4 years' anagen (it is a process: won't happen in one fell swoop). That will be its maximum thickness.
However, if one naturally had fine hair when he/she was not losing hair, it will remain fine even after minoxidil.
so if i understand correctly the hair coming in that is fine in diameter the new growth (some of it is thick strands some very fine) can grow thicker at 3/4 of a years time?
I will exemplify what happened with the few new strands that have been sprouting on my temples thanks to minoxidil and antiandrogens (minoxidil alone was not enough for regrowth):
- a new strand shows on the temple (in your case it will be a different distribution as FPHL does not generally leave temples empty)
- at the beginning, this new strand is very fine and short and will fall withing a few weeks / months
- that first strand is replaced by a second one that is a bit thicker and will fall after a longer time
- that second strand is replaced by a third one that is a bit thicker and will have a longer life
- when the third one (or fourth or fifth... depends on how good a responder you are - if you are a responder at all) is replaced by one that lasts three years on your head, that is called a "terminal hair" and can't get thicker than that. That "terminal" hair is thicker from the beginning of its growth (except of course the very first days, when you just see the tip coming out).
How long does it take for that first strand to become thick and "terminal"? It depends on how good a responder you are. I see you use oral antiandrogens, in addition to minoxidil; that should help a lot.
Why should topical anti androgens not work? They do work.I definitely got a lot of regrowth and my hair line is even lowering a tiny bit..
I am using topical anti androgen NOT oral so i am a little concerned if this is enough
but i figured i would decide in few months if i should add oral spironolactone..
i dont know how to tell if topical spironolactone/estrodial is working or not.

And anyways you could not tell the difference unless you spent six months with regular minoxidil and only after that discovered your hair has gotten much worse. I think it is too high a risk.
