What am I on the Norwood scale/Should I be seeking treatment?

Hello everyone.

I am 22 going on 23 and for as long as I can remember I have been worried about receeding early.
I wanted people's opinion as to what I should do. I am going to see a dermatologist next week to get a second opinion because my doctor simply told me I was fine but I personally don't agree.

Here is a pic for reference. I am starting to see recession in the temple areas. Family history is bad on my dad's side as he's bald, his dad was bald, and his two brothers are both bald but one has good hair (the youngest one, the luckiest one)

My mom's side is better. Uncle had decent hair and his dad still had decent hair in his 60's.

My hair is thick but I have definitely been noticing a change the last few years.

Help me out.

I don't see any signs yet but if you start balding you would want to start finasteride

Yes I have read up on that and I feel like I would be most comfortable with that.
Who prescribes that for me? My Doctor and or derm?

Also I heard about the side effects... and is it true that you need to stay on it and if you go off it stops working?

You can get a prescription for Finasteride from your dermatologist or your doctor. About side effects, if you do get them, you can quit the medication and they should subside. It is true that if you take Finasteride and benefit from it and then quit the medication, you will lose all gains from it.

Like I put in my previous post, I don't see any sings of hair loss. However, if you really start balding, then get on Finasteride.

If you stop finasteride you will start losing hair again. Like the rest, I don't see any signs of hair loss.

Very good advice. I actually made a Doctor appointment so, I will go from there. Im from Canada so apparently I can't see a derm without my doctor's referral.
I will see what happens and all the advice and tips here are appreciated.

So thanks.

Think so? I will see what she says. I have been persistent with it and have kept an eye on it obviously... and my hairline has changed for sure but I suppose thats just part of aging.
Regardless I will speak with her Monday and see what she has to say.

There is something called 'maturing hairline' don't confuse it with male pattern baldness.

I have heard that could be hit and miss as far as what is considered a true Mature Hairline.
I also have a family history not completely on my side... since my dad's side has quite a bit of hairloss, while my mother's is better.

I may ask my doctor if finasteride could be an option for me, it would just make me feel better I think and confident that I am at least doing something to ensure a problem doesn't occur or worsen.
