What Brick And Mortar Pharmacy Should I Buy From? (us)

It seems after ACA, companies have doubled their prices because they can.

Wasn't Proscar $90 for 30 before? I know it can be had from India for $30, but I just wanted to be 100% sure it was real. I also heard it is harder now to get it from India. Also I have a prescription now.

Walgreens has generic Finasteride for $84 for 30. Ouch. I asked for Proscar, and they told me they were giving me Proscar, but when I got home, it was Finasteride. I filed as dispute with my credit card company to get a refund, since Walgreens said I should have specified I wanted Brand Name Proscar. When they hear or say Proscar, they mean generic.

Right Aid has Proscar for $184 for 30.

Walmart has the generic for $9 for 30. If I go generic, that is where I'd go. I just thought brand name would be safer, since likely it is made by Merk in the US.

Any advice, please!

I was all ready to buy from Merk, and give them some money for saving my hair. But their prices keep going up so high!. Why?! Don't they realize if I buy elsewhere, they get nothing? Or are people paying that high price to pay them back or because they really want to know it is real? Anyone know if they make it in the United States, or elsewhere?

FDA says they check all licensed pharmacy's pills. They don't check black market ones. So, I wonder if I jumped the gun by insisting on Proscar instead of Finasteride, other than to help out Merk. If I'm going generic, I should go $9 at Walmart, no? I'll call them now to see if that includes Finasteride.

Yep. Finasteride at Walmart is $9, and you can buy multiple months at once if your prescription has that many refills and you are paying cash. Proscar there is $200.

Well, I guess I still can't afford to repay Merk for my hair. However, I am glad they are making that much money. If they are charging it, someone must be paying it, which means they are getting paid back. Good for them.

Well, I got 5 months filled at Walmart. The technician was upset and unwilling to fill it, but the pharmasist, a baldy, said he did not care since it is only Finasteride. I saved $5 total by buying all at once. Also no sales tax. Another tech said he had to read me the directions, but he said he's sure I already know them. I paid and left.

As for how I got the script, I have insurance from the ACA. I called a derm and asked how much a script for Proscar would be. They said $150 for the visit. I then asked how much a skin check up is. They said my insurance covers it and I pay the $15 copay only. I then asked how much the script costs if I ask about it during the visit. They said it would be free. So that is what I did.

I then shopped around the for lowest priced finasteride. I would have paid extra for Proscar, but it is so expensive now. The Finasteride is 1/5 the cost of Indian Finasteride, and supposedly tested by the FDA, since Walmart is licensed. The pills are a different brand than the Walgreens ones.
