What Do You Guys Think? Am I Balding At The Crown?

I am 21 with a solid Norwood 1.5.

So I recently got my hair cut very short, and everything looked uniform, everything looked the same.

It's a little bit longer now, still pretty short, but at some angles my crown looks like it's thinning, but this is complicated by my hair type. I have extremely coarse strands, but my hairs are spaced far apart. Also it sticks right out on end when it's short. There are some pics where it looks really bad

And others where it looks just fine.

Am I freaking out over nothing?

Look to be balding cuz

take your finasteride like skittles and you should be good to go. Caught it early.

Everyone on here is so quick to jump to balding... It could quite possibly be balding but at this point it's too early to tell. Wait 3-6 months and then that should give you a true idea of what's going on. Personally I don't think you're balding though

I feel your pain, brother! Anyway.. it kinda looks like you have a double crown at the back of your head, there.
This can quiet often gives the appearance of balding, when in actual fact, its just the way your hair swirls out from both crowns.

Ask your gay hairdresser about this the next time you see him.

Looks like some pretty damn obvious diffuse thinning to me... The density of your hair ontop (especially from the last two pictures) is not uniform and you can see thinning patches. You ask for opinions on whether you're balding or not, then you try to argue with anyone who states that they think you're balding?... I mean its pretty obvious you're in denial.

Here's what I suggest: Make an appointment with a good dermatologist and get the diagnosis from him/her. They will have the proper tools and knowledge to determine whether or not you have male pattern baldness, and if they do confirm you have male pattern baldness, then you can be assured that you are infact balding.

I agree with this. A lot of non balding people have a spiral that looks like crap under harsh light on their crown. It COULD be early balding, or it could be just the pattern of your hair(some people have hair that grows in a spiral in that area and it always looks thin under harsh light). There are three ways to make an educated guess.

1) If the scalp that shows up in photos looks to be in the shape of a spiral that is usually an indication that is just the way your hair is. Do a google image search for "bald spot" and you will see that crown loss doesnt usually show up in that pattern, its more uniform throughout the balding area.

2) Photos every 3-6 months to monitor progress

3) Miniaturization test

Unfortunately none of these are full proof. All I can determine from your photos is that you MAY be in the early stage of crown loss.

Going to the derm is a good idea. I will say this though, people with light skin and dark hair that is at the length to where it can stand up can look very thin in certain lighting. Even in normal lighting they can look thin. Im not convinced this guy is balding, he might be but I think it is very possible that he isnt. One of the things that is tipping me off is the quality of his hair. Usually somebody who is thinning diffusely has obviously lower quality hair all throughout the thinning area. This guy looks like he has good quality hair, where somebody just pulled some small random patches out. That isnt too common in male pattern baldness from what I have seen. If his hair is laying in a certain way in those areas it can certainly mimick that though imo.

Sorry for roping you guys into this, I know it must seem like I'm going "Oh f*** you, I'm not going bald, grrr!" I've just spent a horrendous amount of time this last month worrying, and it just hit its peak today. Yeah, I'll monitor it. If it gets any worse I'll come back and post pics of my bald head.

I have the weirdest hair texture though. It's super coarse but not dense, so it's easy to see through. It's sort of like Asian hair, but not quite. I'm half Hispanic, so that's where it comes from.

This is what it looked like about 3 months ago grown out.

And this pic supports the not balding hypothesis imo. Look at the side(usually immune to male pattern baldness), you can see an area that looks slightly thin. If you were to angle your head so this part was facing up toward the light and take an overhead photo of that area, it would probably look a lot thinner than it does in this pic.

See a derm ASAP. Either way you are good. Even if you are balding, its early enough and in an area where you are very likely to get good results with finasteride.
