What's the likelihood of my diffuse thinning being temporary?

The last couple months for me have been very stressful. I got myself into a fight where I thought I was going to have to do jail time, my shoulder got dislocated which resulted in me having to go under anaesthesia at the er. Then one month later underwent shoulder surgery. I was also involved in a serious auto accident during this time that resulted in my car being totaled and having to go through a lawsuit settlement with the insurance. I'm not 100% certain but I know that prior to these events I had no noticeable diffuse thinning at all. Then probably about two months ago I noticed my scalp was visible under light and after the shower when it wasn't before. Most information I see online says that telogen effluvium (diffuse thinning) is temporary and not permament. However on many hairloss forums people talk about diffuse thinning being the worst of all.

99% of the time it is AA and not Telogen Effluvium. Go to a doctor and get your scalp analyzed.

I’ve had telogen effluvium before from taking accutane. It’s definitely possible if there’s a certain stressor or underlying cause. Check with a derm to look for miniaturization.

So how much does it cost to actually get your scalp tested to see what's causing the issue?

With all the stress factors you've had and no noticeable diffuse thinning, it's very likely you are suffering from Telogen Effluvium.

It would probably take you at around 6-9 months to start seeing some recovery provided you don't have any more substantial stress.

I'd say the main thing is to be a calm as possible until then

This is one of the stages of denial. It's most likely permanent hair loss, especially if it's following the typical male baldness pattern.

AA and Telogen Effluvium can happen simultaneously too, with Telogen Effluvium drastically speeding up the minituration process by knocking months of a hair cycle out at once
