When and what do we think the first male pattern baldness "cure" will be?

Will it be disabling androgen receptors somehow? Changing hair follicles so they no longer react to DHT? Removing their ability to produce 5ar somehow? What will it be do you think, or what possibilities would you consider most likely, and how long do you think it will take for this cure to be discovered? :)

Pointless thread? Perhaps a little, but it might get some stimulating debate going and who knows maybe raise some good ideas!

And imagine just how fantastic the world will be WHEN, not if, WHEN there is a cheap and easy cure!

Hoppi! :)

Even more, before the first sign of male pattern baldness
Prevention is better than cure!
Exist any preventive method to avoid common hair loss?
Is it recomended minoxidil and/or finasteride without problems with hair?

Cutting your balls might solve the problem, just do it while you have most of your hair.

lol no I don't believe prevention is better than a cure! Not unless you can tell everyone in the whole world what to do to avoid hair loss, and then somehow disable their appropriate genes too! lol

And noooo don't start on finasteride now! You only start on finasteride if you are experiencing DHT-triggered hair loss, which is (most say) the cause of male pattern baldness.

I mean... keeping your hormones in check and limiting stress, eating well, exercising etc I believe helps in individuals that are not genetically disposed to have age-triggered hair loss, or will probably keep the hair on your head for longer, but it is largely just down to genes man.

haha fair point well done, although I still don't fully know what that (Hair Multiplication right?) is O.O

I'd better look it up!

As soon as you find someone who gets the legal clearance to receive a scalp transplant.

I don't like treatments like that I find it weird :(

Mainly when the hair (including follicles) comes from someone else!! That's WEIRD (imo :) )

The "cure" will most likely be some form of hair multiplication. My best guess for when it'll hit the market is 2025, but it'd be churlish to say this is anything other than idle speculation.

As far as I can tell, the following would cure male pattern baldness (please tell me if I've missed any!) :

1) Permanently degrading androgen receptors within the scalp.

2) Permanently stopping 5ar production within the scalp.

3) Permanently vasodilating the scalp, or permanently opening potassium channels in the cells (or any similar channels to allow through nutrients... my knowledge of cellular membranes is limited! :) )

Are any of these even close to possible? I think that the very last one is the least likely - cells are created and die often so there is no real way to consistently open their potassium channels. Vasodilation... maybe. I don't know.

The other 2 are the most likely I think :)

Even if 1) or 2) might prevent hair loss, they wouldn't be sufficient to help those who've already lost their hair.

No... but it would be a start wouldn't it? :)

The second you feel the first signs coming on, you go for the treatment and bam! You're set for life! ^_^
