Coming up on 8 months on finasteride only. I have not been able to see any substantial regrowth, however, I don't think it's gotten any worse.
I am still shedding a bunch of hair when I shake my fingers through my head. Is this normal or is this a sign that finasteride isn't working and I should think about Dutasteride?
My question is when do you know finasteride is not working?

If it's not getting worse at the moment and you are not able to see your scalp being more visible, hair losing thickness/thinning, and receding, then Finasteride is doing what is supposed to do. If you want regrowth, then add Minoxidil to your regimen. Take pictures of your hair, so you will able to check the situation and how it's the situation, at different periods.

Your shedding and Hairloss decreased then it is working, also do not switch medication brands.

I am using minoxidil and finasteride but can't see any results... Sometimes hair look thick and no hairfall but for a very less time period then after that it starts falling again...itchy scalp and thin and messy hair

Same. I have been using finasteride for approximately 9 months, and last week I finally decided to stop taking it when I saw 200 plus hairs left in the bath tub. The sh*t ain't working for me at all!!!

finasteride will on regrow hair in rare (very lucky) cases. Its purpose is slow down hair loss and maintain what is currently there. Think of it as defense not attack.
