Why are there so many threads of experiencing regrowth with finasteride?

I couldn't fit my title. This question is mainly for finasteride takers who ONLY used finasteride and not some topical treatment like minoxidil and experienced regrowth at the crown or hairline.

Why are there so many threads of experiencing regrowth with finasteride when finasteride is only supposed to stop hairloss and maintain?

1. How does finasteride play a role in regrowing if the crown is thinned out and have very little hairs left?
2. Is this the job of finasteride alone or are these people also on topical treatments like RU58841/spironolactone/minoxidil?

I'm trying to find more stories of users who only used finasteride and experienced regrowth on the crown.

Thanks.

Don't know if you seen my story, I have only been on finasteride 1,25 mg and keto 2% shampoo.
I wanted to try my luck with finasteride before trying minoxidil. (don't like the idea of having greasy sticky minoxidil on my scalp for the rest of my life, i only wash my hair 1 a week so that would be a problem :D

if you have alot of miniaturized hairs then you may experience regrowth of those hairs, thats why they always say its better to start sooner rather than later. Also this is why they say diffuse thinners respond best to finasteride, because in some cases it reverses the miniaturization process.

christina berg,

There are cases where diffused thinning is totally stopped, and a full recover from hair loss happens only being on Finasteride. Hopefully that'll be the case for you and Minoxidil won't be needed. :)

finasteride has a chance to regrow hair its just more likely with minoxidil. Nice regrowth christina.

Great replies guys. Thanks christina for sharing pictures of your regrowth, congratulations!

I'll likely be staying with finasteride for now, there is regrowth potential with just finasteride alone right?

I'll try to stay away from minoxidil for as long as possible until I really need it. It's quite costly and I'm not yet ready to stick with it for my entire life.

I think it's mostly existing, fine miniaturized hair reversing the process and turning into thick, terminal hair. Perhaps there is some actual regrowth from slick areas, but the hairfollicle was most likely not completely dead yet.

And this is why diffuse thinner seems to respond very good to finasteride. People who recede try to grow hair on the most DHT-sensitive place, the temples. That is very hard and most of them hardly got any vellus hair there left. Diffuse thinner often retain their hairline a long way in the process and still got hair all over the scalp, hence any result will be more noticeable.

I'm a classic diffuse thinner, NW6-pattern. Well advanced. Been on finasteride 8 weeks. My crown is my worst part. I don't know if I'm imagining things, but I think that all that miniaturized hair I have on the crown is growing way longer than they used to. They're turning long, although still very thin. No results on the front, perhaps even worse, can't really tell. I hope I'll see some results within the next coming months. I really, really need this.
