Hi all!
I want to open a debate about something I always see in the forum when giving advice to young people/low norwoods
I'm gonna use my own example to explain it:
- I'm turning 26 in 3 months, Norwood 2, good density. My transition has been from Norwood 1 to Norwood 2 in between 17-almost 26yo
- Family members: one grandfather reached Norwood 3, The other reached NW4.5, My dad is NW5 at 61, and my uncles are all between Norwood 4-5 (none in my family was bald young, all of them reached those high norwoods when they were 45-50-60 yo)
-I started meds 5 months ago, no sides at all and my hairfall seems well stopped. No much change as I had no thin spots, it's the temples receeding
Now with this situation I WOULD LOVE to get a hair transplant just to repair my hairline to NW1.5. And I've been told to need 800-1000grafts for that
What most people say??? "Oh no!!! It's a bad idea cause some day you will progress to Norwood 3 and then you will have to fix it and use more grafts and finally you can end not having enough grafts for the crown!!!! You have to wait for your pattern to show and then try to fix it"
And here is the problem. At the moment, I've been losing 1 Norwood in 7-8 years aprox. All my family members lost all their lifes 1 Norwood each 7-8 years.
My mothers side grandfather who started receeding in the temples just like me, right the same shape and all, was a Norwood 2 at my age, Norwood 3 at 34, Norwood 4 at 41-44 (No crown still just temples) and FINALLY when he was like 60yo he reached the NW5.
If my pattern is similar (as it seems) WHEN THE f*** is gonna be "the right moment" to fix my temples. Cause my granda had no minoxidil, no finasteride, no dutasteride mesotherapys, no microneedling, no cb0301, no new meds in the pipeline, etc. So "the right moment" Is gonna be when I reach the Norwood 3 at 40???? 45??? No, cause I could progress to the NW4 then when I'm 55?????
It makes no sense to live all my life waiting for a high Norwood to transplant, being known as a bald guy, buzzing my head, getting jobs, wife, children, etc etc and when I'm 60 and Norwood 4-5 then I get a hair transplant to be Norwood 2.5 and enjoy my amazing hairy retirement
