Why Do Some People Respond Better To Finasteride Than Others?

I have seen here dozens of times "You're a good Finasteride responder". I wonder why some people respond to this drug well and others don't get any benefit at all? Why do Asians respond better? (known fact)

Sometimes it's clearly visible that androgens aren't the main culprit when even high doses of Dutasteride don't help, but in most cases, Finasteride gives either maintenance or maintenance + slight thickening up of existing hair, but there are exceptional cases when people regrow big bald spots with Finasteride alone.

Do you guys have any ideas on that?

Yeah it seems Asians respond better but they are also way less likely to go bald and if they do they diffuse it seems. I think it's all genes in the end, it's like saying why do some people age better? Even when they go out in the sun all the time. You won't say that theres another mechinism for the cause of aging. Or wound healing ..

Yep very few bald Asians in SE arena.
Down to diet 100% have had long conversation with numerous Doctors out there. No miracles just diet

Bullshit. If it was diet then it would have been cured a long time ago. You don't think in 200,000 years of humans existing we didn't have more fish based diets? Our diets are very recent. Doesnt make sense.

I googled a bit and came across that thread, it may be interesting. Looks like it completely depends on your DNA, the saddest part is that we can't check those CAG and GGN things.

Well, this is not difficult, I guess. Ultimate solution is to make trichogram before treatment and after 8-10 months of treatment, after that the rest part is trivial:
- If you have less hair on the 10th-month mark - the treatment doesn't work for you.
- If you don't see any changes it means you're maintaining.
- If there is more hair, then you should be happy, because you respond well.

But it's expensive and time-consuming route, if you need simpler method - just buzz your hair and take photos monthly keeping the same length of hair and lighting condition.

I mean in theory, finasteride has to do SOMETHING to slow down hair loss for everyone to a certain extent right? It might not stop male pattern baldness completely, but taking finasteride is ALWAYS better than not taking it right? How would it be possible that it will do nothing at all? We know that DHT is not the only thing that causes male pattern baldness, but we know with certainty that it is a major factor...

It could not do anything. Once you see male pattern baldness the process was well underway long before that, and once it starts its not just DHT anymore. Also what causes sensitivity? We dont know anything about it still. What if your super sensitive and lowering DHT isnt enough? What if testosterone is some men causes male pattern baldness by itself? We have no clue about most of it

Right back to your genetics, and a bunch of stuff we dont know yet like what genes exactly.

It is observed that people with lots of body hairs I.e chest,leg arm hairs responds to finasteride well. It is genetic (boring answer).

But there was a study that like 95% or something crazy amount of Japanese had postive results on finasteride. Japanese men aren't really known for their hairy arms, chest and legs. I think there is more to it than that.

Again we can sum up most of this with we have no fuking clue really. Everyone has a guess though. I dont think there is any real indicator or anything that we know of yet.
