Why Doesn't Finasteride Reduce Strength/energy (gym Performance Etc) ?

I know finasteride works for hair loss, but after watching a ton of videos/reading articles I'm still not convinced that It works by ONLY reducing DHT, I think that it has some other function that the medical field has not figured out yet. Obviously I don't have any evidence.

-It's a fact that DHT is 3-5 times more potent than testosterone

-We all know that if testosterone levels in a male fall, the person will experience weakness, low energy/drive and just feel like crap in general.

-When a person is on finasteride/Dutasteride - they rarely experience any loss of strength / energy levels / drive, in fact some people report they can do more reps at the gym.

Slightly off topic

-As a male ages, test(test is needed to convert into DHT) falls at about a rate of 1% per year starting at 30 (depending on a few other things like diet, sleep etc), but the balding also progresses as you age which doesn't make complete sense to me. The only logical expiation I've heard was the miniaturization process is faster than the progression of testosterone drop rate as the person ages.

-DHT is responsible for hair growth on the body of a male during puberty, eventually the only place hair starts to fall out is the scalp and in the shape of a horseshoe, but hair on other parts of the body continue to grow. Back, on top of ears, behind tricepts (arms) etc. ???????????

"When a person is on finasteride/Dutasteride - they rarely experience any loss of strength / energy levels / drive, "
"I have seen many cases where people report this"

Can you post any links I honestly want to read more about this?

I talked to the consultant of Hasson & Wong who consulted over 10,000 people interested in a hair transplant that were on finasteride some of whom go to the gym regularly including the consultant himself. He said he did not hear any one reporting anything like this. This was one of my biggest concerns going into the consultation before starting finasteride as fitness is a big part of my life.

"in fact some people report they can do more reps at the gym"
"I have never really seen this..."

I got this from my own experience and from the hosts of "The Balt Truth" Joe Tillman and Spencer Kobren each have 10+years experience in the industry and have consulted a thousands of patients.

I think this was the video where they said the part about doing more reps

Finally this guy took dutasteride and paid $200 to test his DHT levels which were at 0 - going to the gym regularly.

Because there are no 5Ar enzymes in the muscle sites , meaning that dht does not really bind to the muscle androgen receptors .
Some people find it more difficult to lose fat though , because dht is antiestrogenic, and lack of it can result in fat gain at several body parts.

do you have any links to anyone talking about this by chance ?

I read on this forum that lowering your DHT will lower your good cholesterol which is an essential hormonal building block.

Dht is a paracrine hormone not endocrine, it mostly works at a tissue level and muscle tissue does not express 5ar hence dht is not anabolic.

You mean Hasson & Wong who SELL FINASTERIDE? Yeah I am sure they are objective...

About the baldtruthtaIk video: You expect me to look up the info myself in a video of almost 2 hours?

The last guy is on steroids, which he talks about a lot... Not really a good example.

You actually have to goto Vancouver Canada who to their clinic to get the topical finasteride from H&W, they do not prescribe anything else other than topical. If they were SELLINING FINASTERIDE, why don't they just sell it openly to the public without physically going to the office to maximize profit ?

The consultant who I met with from H&W is on Proscar, and not the topical version that H&W sells due to price. By the way, not ones during the consultation has the consultant try to sell me anything.

I don't care if you watch the video or not, I referred to the video because both of those hosts do hair loss consulting for a living for 10+ years I would tend to trust people who actually do this for a living instead of reading quotes like "I have seen many cases where people report this"

I started taking finasteride the last 2 days and will be on it for at least 1 month and goto the gym regularly - I'll post the results a little later in a new thread.

Are there any actual links to what you are saying?

I've gained muscle and have abs showing since I've been on dutasteride. I guess because it raises test levels ?

DHT isn't significantlly active in muscle tissue, like Tommybommy said. From Wikipedia's DHT page:

In addition, unlike testosterone, DHT is inactivated by 3α-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3α-HSD) into the very weak androgen 3α-androstanediol in various tissues such as muscle, adipose, and liver among others,[5][8][9] and in relation to this, DHT has been reported to be a very poor anabolic agent when administered exogenously as a medication.[10]
