Why is dutasteride ideal compared to finasteride to so many people despite more sides

It's convincing me to get into finasteride. Some people can't handle finasteride, and it has somethign to do with both forms of dht that dutasteride can block, whereas finasteride majorly blocks only one.

I'm not sure entirely

incidence of sides is only marginally higher, so if you didn’t get sides on finasteride it’s highly likely you wouldn’t on dutasteride.

why so tho
It just depends. You can't really make a blanket statement like that. Dutasteride inhibits both the type I & II 5AR enzymes by a significant degree, whereas finasteride primarily only blocks type II (which is the one primarily found in hair follicles). We don't really know how impactful it is to block the type I enzyme, though it seems to have some neurosteroidal functions. What I can say anecdotally is that different people respond to each drug differently. Some people do great on finasteride but terrible on dutasteride. And vice versa. One may give severe sides but the other does not. One may help your hair but the other may seem to make it worse. So it all depends. A lot of people automatically think dutasteride is superior because it inhibits more DHT, but that does not necessarily make it better. Due to inhibiting DHT, I believe that some people can experience receptor upregulation to the point where it outweighs the benefits. So it really is trial and error. But finasteride is probably a safer starting point since it inhibits less DHT and it only reduces the type II enzyme. If it doesn't work then you could try dutasteride and it might actually be better for you.
