Hey, I've posted on this site before and Havent been around for a while, but yea I just recently turned 17 (Been balding since 15) and it started with a massive shed, in which my hair loss became very diffuse and noticable in about two months, since then ive been gradually losing hair. I tried rogaine for a short time but i hated it, i felt so miserable and greasy from it all the time that i quit after three months, but yea what ive started paying attention to lately is that almost every hair I lose has a little white ball of gunk on the end of it, it confuses the hell outta me. Im guessing that its oils, my scalp often gets pretty greasy. Anyone else notice something like this? My hair loss is very confusing because it could be genetic, it could be from my thyroid (my mom had thyroid cancer and i was on thyroid medicine for about a year), and it could be from telogen effluvium. So yea, Im technically too young to really be on anything, 18 is the required age for propecia or rogaine, but i really need to start doing something, any suggestions? Anything besides rogaine/propecia i could try? or should i just try and get on propecia now? Thanks for all the help, -wicked

I wouldn't jump on propecia just yet because your body is still developing at 17. But you say you lost hair all over? Usually male pattern baldness begins solely at the temples or crown not all over.

Did you endure any extreme stress or traumatic events? You may have Telogen Effluvium.

You should go to your doctor and have a check up just to rule everything out.

There was one pretty stressful/tramatic day a couple months before my hairloss started, but it really hasnt come to any kind of stand still. I went to the dermatoligist (who knows my bald dad whos also a doctor) and he really didnt seem to care much, just kind of brushed it off and suggested rogaine. Is there any kind of special regimin for telogen effluvium?
Thanks

The only thing to stop Telogen Effluvium is to remove the source of stress from your life and your hair will eventually go back to normal in a couple of months.

It can take years. Sometimes it's difficult to know when you are over stress. Your body and your mind do not necessarily concur.
