Will FDA ever approve Avodart?

I know that they suspended trials awhile back. Does this mean that the manufacturer has given up on getting Avodart approved for it?

they did not go through phaseIII probably because GSK determined there would be enough profit since avodart is not better enoguh than propecia and propecia is not making enough profit.

Now if many people are using it off label, that would tell GSK they would have more sales, but then they would have to make far more than they are selling off label.

finally, there is no point in testing a drug that everyone is buying the generic for overseas. they might as well get what they can not through away more research money into a highly pirated field.

well without fda approval then there is no way to guarantee a batch of avodart isn't counterfeit, right? since no doctor will prescribe avodart for male pattern baldness? which sucks.

Huh?? I don't follow you. Avodart is STILL an FDA-approved prescription drug, just not for hairloss. So we have the same assurances for each "batch" of Avodart that we have for any other prescription drug.

physicians have the authority to prescribe any drug for any use they deeme fit. however, if they prescribe a drug for off label use, they open themselves up to the possibility of a lawsuit if anything goes wrong. most will not risk their license by doing this. however, some will. i think about 25% will give you a prescription if you explain the risks and your expectations and make them comfortable that you are not going to blame everything on them, and you agree to bi-yearly tests.

Bryan,

FDA has not approved it for hair loss, so doctors here will not prescribe it, so pharmacies here will not dispense it for that purpose.

So the only way to get Avodart or dutas for male pattern baldness is to buy it from a no-prescription-required online pharmacy, where it may or may not be counterfeit.

I may be wrong though since college says some may prescribe it. My derm wouldn't and I didn't ask.

medical doctors "off label" a drugs all the time, Neurontin is a FDA approved seizure med but off labeled used for pain... there are tons more, just one i am familiar with....

there is nothing wrong with off labeling drugs, Avodart can be legally and ethically prescribed for male pattern baldness

Now what would not be ethical is prescribing a non FDA approved drug for whatever... but even then there is some leeway
